That is one funky, cool-looking building. Kinda reminds me a little of the (now dead) Park Fifth proposal for DTLA.

BTW, a little off topic: Does TRON take place in Vancouver? I watched it recently.

I believe it was filmed in Vancouver

It was filmed in Vancouver, though I believe the city remains nameless in the actual movie. In fact the main character base jumps off the very window washing crane discussed on the previous page.

The City just approved higher building heights on a few select sites downtown - the highest being 700ft! Furthermore, the City typically allows an additional 10% to building height for mechanical penthouse, architectural appurtenances, etc. so we could potentially see a 770ft tower go up on that particular site, though more likely it would be closer to 750ft at best. Overall not a huge change but it's a step in the right direction and hopefully sets a precedent for further changes to come. I know that the development community as well as City Hall, as it would appear, wish for further relaxation of height limits but there is a well-organized group of citizens campaigning against any further relaxation in order to preserve mountain views etc. etc.

Thanks for the continued updates, Hed! Looks like we have another decent round of towers coming up. Fingers crossed that we get another decently tall tower or two proposed this year (or more ). I also wouldn't mind seeing the Hastings office tower get kicked up over 500ft since the City seems supportive of it going taller.

I got a question for DT Vancouver experts...

Hey all!

So I'm pumped because I found out yesterday my trip to Vancouver to run the '11 Vancouver Marathon is going to happen after all. So (I'm on an extreme budget) I plan on staying at the YWCA, and I want to utilize every second of my trip while I'm there. I see so many gorgeous shots of the city on here, and I wondered if any of you would be interested in sharing your secrets - where should I go to get some really great photos? Do any of the skyscrapers have observation decks to get good photos from? I'd like to get some great shots (downtown & nature in the background) as well as city/skid shots...and of course after the marathon, I want to get a picture of me with my finisher medal with the skyline in the background.

If you have any ideas, feel free to drop me a note!! I'd really appreciate it!

In terms of skyline shots, I would suggest taking a photo from the neighborhood of Fairview. This is north of w Broadway, between Cambie and Granville.

Community Plan
A vision that’s coming to life

River District is bounded by the Fraser to the south and the rest of Vancouver to the north, so it needs to act like a city that’s not in the city. Over 25 acres of the 130-acre site is devoted to public space, part of a sustainable plan that has a long-term vision. Designed by a world-class team of planners, architects and engineers, this will be a thoughtful modern solution, a new way to live and work in Vancouver.

Any idea if there will be any significant projects coming up soon? Other than the hotel georgia and the Burrard Gateway?

What's going on with 1133 West Georgia?

Would be amazing if someone could do a render of Burnaby's future Metrotown skyline. It's probably gonna be pretty impressive for a city of only 250 000 that has 4 separate cores.

Major update

Several projects throughout the city of Vancouver.

UPDATE: The Rolston is not under construction; Jameson House is complete; Ritz-Carlton should be renamed "Vancouver's Turn" or 1133 West Georgia; Bentall 6 should be renamed "745 Thurlow"; The heights of the Telus Development are 135 meters, 45 floors and 88 meters, 21 floors; and Maddox could potentially be labeled as "Under Construction" as site prep has finished and they have started excavation(I think?)

1401 Comox Street (PROPOSED)
76 meters, 22 floors

http://www.emporis.com/building/1169...mage&id=762675

180 Kingsway (PROPOSED)
75 meters, 19 floors

http://www.gridsvancouver.com/?p=61

The Colours (PROPOSED) (should replace 47 Nelson)
91 meters, 30 floors; 85 meters, 28 floors

Marine Gateway (APPROVED)
102 meters, 35 floors; 78 meters, 26 floors; 63 meters, 14 floors

2300 Kingsway (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
77 meters, 22 floors

Updated renders for your list

1134 burrard

1155 Hornby

1265-1281 Howe

NOTE: I was wondering if you would be able to convert your height measurements to meters, or at least include meters with feet... as this is a Canadian city. I would really appreciate it, as I'm sure others would as well.
