Where's the um... anything at street level?

And 334 parking spots? Next to a Skytrain line? Sounds like about 300 too many.

It's the crappy attention to details like those shown in this proposal that keep Metrotown as an ugly mess instead of a thriving regional meeting place.

I think someone mentioned that the 334 parking spots already exist....or something like that.

Metrotower III has just been pre-approved for LEED Platinum certification. This is a significant acheivement as it would be the first large office tower in Canada to reach this plateau, and one of the first in the world.

The parking that was built previously is underneath Tower II and is not accessible right now. It was built with knock-out panels in the walls adjoining the future Tower III parkade. Once the Tower III parkade is constructed, the knock-out panels will be removed and the two parking pools will be connected.

There are no existing footings under the Tower III footprint, excavation for the underground parkade will be required and will last about 4 months.

Flight, There is actually no structure within the built up area adjacent to Tower II. In order to go ahead with Tower III it will be necessary to remove all the built up soils and excavate. That built up soil is not bearing anyway, it is the dirt from the excavation of Tower II, take a look at this pic of construction of the original Metropolis and Tower I, both the Tower II and Tower III sites are in the previous bus loop.

Not sure if you've had the chance to see the site in the last couple of weeks, but they are relocating the fire lane right now so that they can begin excavation in mid to late August.

The excavation site had the trees removed last month, many of them were actually removed with a tree spade and are being stored off site for re-use once the project is complete.

They were taking out the small retaining walls around the plaza as well as removing the sidewalk to add a new lay by lane on Central Blvd.

So I just started my job at Metrotower II today. As expected, when I mentioned about the new Metrotower III construction, my co-workers' eyes rolled and they started complaining about bad parking and traffic right now due to construction. Yup, it's gonna be a messy three years

Hopefully I'll have time to periodically take photos of Metrotower III's construction and update you guys

Can't wait to see pics of it going up. I frequently see the Burnaby skyline and a new commercial tower will be a pleasant sight.
