Is Saskatoon really a "Prairie" city?

Now, hear me out, a prairie area is usually flat, but in Saskatoon there is a slight dip towards the river in elevation.

Also, the open prairie is dominated by grasses, but Saskatoon is full of trees!

Last, a prairie is usually quite dry, but again there is a river downtown!

So, is Saskatoon a real Prairie town like Flatsgrassville or is it more like Tokyo?

Yet another thread that seems intended to make sure that we all have information that we can draw on at cocktail parties.

Are you saying that, as a Prairie City, Saskatoon punches below its weight?

I've always wondered the same thing about Calgary. In many ways it feels like a prairie city having lots of wide open spaces without trees but there are also so many varying elevations, and also areas that have natural trees. Groves of Douglas Firs, and groves of Aspens.

It's about time people started calling out Saskatoon for being a god damned fraud.

I've been to Paris - it's pretty flat too.....

The Seine also looks a lot like the South Saskatchewan River.

It has a river. That makes it a coastal city.

In many ways Toronto is a prairie city. The midwest sort of blends right into the great plains. The only real difference is trees vs no trees.......

I see a "is Toronto a Midwestern city" thread on the horizon.

Easy question.

Does Saskatoon have authentic old-school grain elevators within its city limits?

If not then the answer is a resounding NO.

"Is Toronto on the East Coast?" is a question that was actually seriously debated here not too long ago...
