Los Angeles is a happening place. Don't you agree?

Victoria Park Los Angeles, between Crenshaw & Olympic

Bonnie Brae Historic District Los Angeles
Frederick Mitchell Mooers House
and neighborhood

Many not in the best of shape, while some are being restored.

The old YWCA built in 1912.

USC Book Fair

After the book festival I crossed the street to the Rose Garden at
Exposition Park. The lightrail station sits between the two.

Central Avenue and 42nd St, south Los Angeles

The old historic Dunbar Hotel at Central and 42nd. Part of LA's black
history. Many black entertainers stayed here when they weren't allowed
to stay in any of the big Hollywood and LA hotels. Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Billy Eckstine and many others stayed here. Today it's being
renovated into low income apts.

Venice Canals/Abbot Kinney

Jazz at LACMA
Los Angeles County Museum Of Art

The Hollywood Sign

The old Sears Distribution Center in Boyle Heights

Cincodemayo Olvera Street DT LA

And the rest

Thanks for stopping by. So glad you took the time.

Excellent photoset! From festivals, to farmers markets, to food trucks--I can't remember LA feeling this alive.

How is the downtown area doing? Is it becoming a hub of the metro area? I have not been to LA in 11yrs. I miss it there.

It's on fire. Lots of residents and businesses moving in. Target opened up late last year and Urban Outfitters just signed a lease to occupy one of the historic theaters on Broadway. There are also rumors Whole Foods will go into one of the mixed use buildings under construction. In addition a supertall hotel/office tower is ready to break ground and local property owners have voted to tax themselves in order to fund a downtown streetcar.

Thanks for the info. That makes me really happy because I have been downtown and it was just beginning to have a big comeback in 2002. It is so important that the downtown area of a huge city like LA should be vibrant and attract not only people from other parts of the metro but the country and world.

LA's time is coming soon- especially DTLA. I actually get a kick out of the hate this city receives from residents of other cities, because when LA gets its day in the sun (no pun intended), it will have that much more impact. My signature sums up how I feel

^^^ Totally agree I just quietly hope the momentum continues to build and that there will no foreseeable catastrophic events in the future (recessions, earthquakes (esp.), etc) to stop or discourage or dissolve it.

I am really curious to see how DT LA will develop over the next 10 years. I still think the main problem with it is all the parking lots and gaps between the more dense areas. Hopefully that will all be nicely filled in.

Anyway, this thread def. makes me excited for my LA trip next week! Going down for 5 days, 5/22 - 5/27.

I never realized that USC had buildings that look like they were plucked off of the historic core of UCLA.
