Public transit in Amsterdam

I am going to Amsterdam in two months and I would like to get acquainted with the tram and metro system there. From what I read they seem to have a good system there. The city has several kilometers of tram track as well as a full Metro system In addition buses and canals are two other modes of transit.

If anybody has transit photos of this city please post them. I'd like to see what this community has to offer in this regard.

^To get you started; the Volkskrant (Amsterdam based national newspaper) recently published this photo series of new subway trains being taken into service: http://www.volkskrant.nl/vk/nl/2734/...se-metro.dhtml

Amsterdam is a nice and compact city and you can generally walk to everything. You might not even need to use transit honestly.

I beg tot disagree.

If you confine yourself to the redlight district and the main shopping streets, yes you could walk everything.

But if you want to see more, no.

If you would like tot visit the museums, gentrifying areas (Westerpark, Indische Buurt), or the new IJ-developments, a tram would be quite handy.

For even more adventurous tourists who like to visit exotic markets, you have to fan out by metro to Amsterdam ''Zuidoost'' (black urbs) or by tram to ''West'' (arab urbs).
