The movie theater mentioned in the Clemens presser is meant as a media room for tenants. That should not be interpreted as an announcement of a retail cinema tenant. East Market has not announced any retail tenants at this point beyond MOM's, Design Within Reach, and (indirectly through others) Wawa. If you go back to the CDR documents for this project, you can see that the project is not laid out to accommodate a single user like Bloomingdale's. Not saying it couldn't be reconfigured to do so, but with the concept being that retail opens onto Market as well as the interior streets, it would be tough to achieve the lively environment you need for that to work by giving it all to a department store. Additionally it should be noted that the 160k in retail is the total across the two retail podiums, so there really isn't enough contiguous space to accommodate a full-sized Bloomingdale's in any scenario.

I think there's reason to be hopeful that both a mainstream movie theater and a Primark will be components of the new Gallery. Hopefully we'll get some actual announcements from one or both projects soon.

Would love a primark here... good, super cheap stuff and bright and flashy fits perfectly for the model of an updated high-energy market east

What is a "media room for tenants"? Must be a nice perk in an age where 50 and up inch TVs are relatively cheap

Usually a room with far larger tv than that. Closer to theater size. Often with other things in it. Like a pool table. Seating, etc..And you can usually block it out for private parties and events.

Did anybody else know Marriott has rooms in the Reading Terminal 'Headhouse Tower,' as they call it. I found this out last night. And they're nice rooms! Perfect view of East Market site. The only thing that sucks in the length of time it takes you to finally get to your room from the front desk. Up the escalator to the conference level, over the sky bridge to Headhouse Tower, pass by a lovely view down into the Reading Terminal convention hall, then to your building's elevator bank. It's quite a spiel at check-in. She must have said three times not to use the elevator banks in the main Marriott building, "We have two floor # 5's."

Yes they have been there for many years. I guess that was the old office space for the Reading Railroad.

There has been talk of renovating the ground floor of the headhouse. It would be neat if they added a separate lobby, removed the skybridge and made the headhouse a separate boutique-y Marriott hotel property. Wouldnt really need to remove the skybridge. Probably will never happen, but would be nice to make that building a little more chic and stand out rather than just being an annex to the convention center and hotel. The headhouse seems like such an underappreciated historical asset (especially with that damn tacky Hard Rock cafe sign).

Agree with all of this.

Western tower retail base is taking shape quickly. Some second floor steel is already going in. This corner is going to look very different in a few months.

That is the perfect use for this project!
Glad this would be an expansion/net new space rather than a relocation from another location.

That's awesome! I was just at Iron Hill Brewery in Chestnut Hill last week. Good food and good beers. Glad to see they're coming further into the city. They'll generate a lot of foot traffic.

News is Primark is signing a deal in the city too. Unsure if it's here or in the Fashion Outlets development.

Iron Hill is perfect for this spot. It's a big enough name that it will draw in suburbanites who are scared or just not interested in trying something new, while being regional enough to be something new for tourists to explore (and it's got pretty good food and beer, so they're not likely to be disappointed). I can't think of anything that would have been a better fit here. Brilliant move to help anchor this development.

Iron Hill to take space at East Market

Judging by the renderings posted, Iron Hill will go in the west tower.

Quote:
Iron Hill Brewery has plans to open a new brewpub at the East Market development under construction at 11th and Market streets in Philadelphia.

The restaurant signed a long-term lease on roughly 8,500 square feet of space that will seat 250 people, have semi-private dining rooms and breakout rooms, as well as an outdoor dining area.

Iron Hill will join Wawa, Design Within Reach and Mom’s Organic Market as tenants in the mixed-use project that has 130,000 square feet of retail space, 175,000 square feet of office space and 322 apartments in its first phase. The restaurant will be the thirteenth for Iron Hill, which has a presence in Philadelphia’s Chestnut Hill neighborhood.

Kevin Finn, president and founder of Iron Hill, said that for the last few years he has been frequently trekking to Philadelphia with his two teenage daughters to visit museums, coffee shops, boutiques and other stores, and took note of all of the activity underway in the city.

“It has been amazing to me to see how the city is transforming,” Finn said. “There’s so much going on and it seemed like a good time to get in. We really, really like this site. It’s the best of both worlds. It has a lot of residential and it's in the heart of Philadelphia.”

Finn believes that the East Market project and burgeoning area of Philadelphia will allow Iron Hill to be part of a neighborhood that is on the upswing.

It will initially employ about 100 people.
