Haha pretty cool renderings for an April fools joke. Someone really put some time in.

While the article is a joke it does link to a very real article about the sixers building a new arena. The author speculates on a move to Camden, which based on what I have heard is not in the cards, but it does none the less point out some of the tensions between the sixers and comcast and their desire to own their own arena.

Yeah, I hope it is definitely not in Camden. But part of me says with their brand spanking new training facility there, nothing is completely off the table as far as a new arena there. Nothing speaks of proximity to having a training facility and an arena in the same zip code. Nonetheless, I guess the owner has a lot to think about and has to have discussions with local government, developers, and investors, and the availability of land and construction time table that can meet a pre-defined deadline. The real question is when Joshua will pull the trigger on this plan and start to get all these things in motion. Time will tell if the economics will work and if he is really serious or not.

Being next to the practice facility is nice, but deep South Philly to Camden is basically a lateral move at best. It'd be another arena accessible by highway and subway, but not very walkable and not surrounded by much.

The big difference of course is they'd own their own arena which is their main goal, but they don't just want a Philadelphia arena, they want THE Philadelphia arena that attracts every major concert, event, convention etc. They think the best way to do that is to be downtown.

I'm sure though Camden will be used as a bargaining chip. As you said, we'll see how serious this is soon enough. There has been plenty of smoke on it topic, but if they're actually moving sometime around 2030, we'll likely start to hear some more concrete information in the next few years.

The April Fool's joke had them moving by 30th Street Station and taking out Irish Pub. http://www.ocfrealty.com/naked-phill...ss-30th-market I know there is a tower earmarked for that spot, but in some ways, I wish it actually could/would happen. Just went to the Flyers/Caps came in DC, and it's really fun to have a sports arena in the center of town. Feel that way when I go to Madison Square Garden too.

Site activity has picked up dramatically here as of recently.

There is a Maxim crawler crane being assembled on site and various pieces of heavy equipment.

It's going to me Nice to see a highrise here in what seems to be a sea of parking lots and stadiums.

from the lowrise thread but more activity in the stadium area. This makes sense and would like to see residential lining the parking lots as well
