TD signs look awesome. They are not centred and it works.

They are pumping heavy gravel onto the roof now. It's all Greek to me.

Definitely better on the broad sides than short, IMO
That seems extremely bizarre since they spent 2 days just installing the mounts for the new one, before they even put that sign itself up.

This is how a gorgeous building was meant to look like fro day 1, 39 years ago.
It looks new, timeless elegance. When 300 Main, it ever gets built, only 16 months late now, It will compliment beautifully.
Winnipeg Square welcome to 2018!

^ In fairness, 360 Main looked pretty nice when it was first built, it's just that the colours and materials didn't age especially well.

Nah, I was there. It was always kind of blah. The look now kicks ass.

Is it just me or has the floor plate gotten bigger from the original illustrations?

^ Yeah, it does look somewhat bulkier. Still nicely proportioned, though!

I was looking at them from outside yesterday and was kind of surprised to see that the TD signs are made of fabric. They were visibly rippling in the breeze. I dunno, that just seems like an el-cheapo Winnipeg-style decision to use fabric banners instead of proper signage materials.

I noticed that too and it wasn't even really a windy day. I'm wondering how well they hold out when we get those occasional 80 - 90km gusty storms.

I think you will find most major signage now is made the same way. Those signs are pretty big. Plexiglass would be heavy and i'm not even sure you could get a single piece to fill that square.

This is based on surface area of individual pieces, and wind speed. The Artis sign before was solid, as are most if not all others downtown. That's because the actual filled pieces were much smaller and could be secured way better – the larger you go the more pieces will move in the wind. A panel of that size would eventually run the risk of fasteners giving out or it cracking and pieces falling down.

Ikea learned this the hard way – if you drive by now, you'll actually see they've replaced all the signage with a mesh material so wind flows through it, because those are some damn big pieces.

I hope it takes it's sweet time to construct, cause that crane is going to have a huge impact on the skyline itself....

I don't. It's going to be pretty crazy as the average person that isn't frequently in Winnipeg Square/360 probably isn't expecting it, it'll be cool to see how quick it'll go up.
