I noticed this in Ottawa, it seems like 9 cafés/bakeries out of 10 were big chains. On the other hand downtown Montreal is almost exclusively big-box-stores territory while the local bakeries and cafés are located in the other neighbourhoods. I neved had trouble finding one here in Villeray, there are litteraly 5 or 6 within a 5 min walk.

That's definitely true, that shows how bad Tim's coffee is if I will get a cup of burnt Starbucks coffee over Tims every day. Calgary has some pretty good local coffee places (Good Earth and P&S) and I go there when I can, but unfortunately they are few and far between.

In the suburban sprawl of Gatineau, there are at least three independent neighbourhood bakeries within a 3-km radius of my house. All of them are owned by immigrants from France BTW.

They do, but people don't use them. They don't like carrying cups around. They want something they can crumple up and throw on the ground when they're done with it.

The only bakeries I can think of in Thunder Bay are locally owned. I guess you can count the ones in grocery stores, but they just produce product for their own stores, and it isn't too bad. The regular loaves of bread that Superstore sells are really good when they're fresh. The "corporate" bread (Old Mill or Grey Mill or whatever) is shit, though. Typically I only buy bread if it is in a clear bag with a sticker that was printed on the scale in the bakery that cooked it, which is located no more than 10 yards away.

If the word Bakery is referring to the coffee shops too then we have lots of them but still, in my neighbourhood, there are two bakeries and they're both local business. Except for a single Burns Meats warehouse, all of the meat processing plants that I can think of here are local businesses, too.

ffs..On dog walk, I got another "Please Play Again"..Same time last year, I already had my token week's worth of morning coffee..I'm 1/30(about) so far this year...On another note,I don't know why there is a lack of luv for Tim's on here?..It's a matter of taste I suppose, but I'll pass on Star-buck's and Second Cup for that matter.

That's one market in one part of the city. Great for people who live or work downtown but a bit difficult for the rest of us to go there on a daily basis.

Because it's more than 2x better, so it's worth it to me. I find Tim's coffee to be watery and flavourless, at least Starbucks has some actual coffee taste to it.
