I agree entirely. This project is nothing to swoon over. The majority of "Homewood Suites" are low budget, composed entirely of stucco, usually located on the sides of highways for truckers, or downtown cores for extended stays. And reading CBC's article on a nine million dollar loan to Vranich only further proves my point.

Quote:
Vranich submitted the application for the Hamilton Downtown Multi-Residential Property Investment Program on behalf of 132 Main Street Inc., the registered property owner of the Bay Street South site, which he also owns.
Quote:
The 15-story, 182 suite hotel is expected to have a full kitchen in every unit and “is identical to a multi-residential building,” said McDiarmond.
Its not even being called a hotel anymore. Its now classified as a "Multi-Residential Property". I can't help but get the feeling that this building will somehow morph into a housing project for recovering addicts, the homeless, abused women, and those who lost their home due to a fire paid for by insurance companies, or some sort of charitable group. Once again, my hopes have been raised for nothing. Here's to a renewed destitute-free downtown -- NOT.

To offer correct perspective, the average room rates at the Burlington Homewood Suites is 150-230 a night. It is the long term stay brand for Hilton and caters to business travellers that will be staying for an extended period of time.

Is it just me or have they started adding to the demolished part of the Federal as well? As in, the part touching the rest of the existing building?

^ that's interesting massing, looks like two buildings, what is that on the west side? Is that a parking garage? The windows look big at least.

It's already much bigger than the HMP building it's replacing. This thing looks like it's going to have a nice massing to it, and be relatively tall for it's floor count. Love seeing things going skyward there once again!

I count 15 floors, with the last one still needing to be finished, so is it almost topped off?

That interesection is going to look drastically different in 2 years when all those projects are done. Lots of height and density.
