17th St. Bridge Railing Collapse

Wow the AJC is showing where huge section of the railings on the new 17th street failed and fell down blocking traffic on 75/85. No talk of injuries, but that just seems like a MAJOR engineering fail for a newer bridge. Doesn't seem like anyone hit it, there was a bit of a storm but still.

I think this is particularly ironic since one of the arguments against the fabulous Calatrava design for that bridge, was that people here just wouldn't "trust" a suspension bridge and would be afraid to use it.

So after kicking the competition results to the curb they went with the safe "DOT+" version and the rails fail.

I thought the same thing when I heard about this.
