Someone was having fun with Photoshop, though. I guess they didn't want the Independent upstaging their actor and decided it needed to move.

I just returned from a trip to LA. I wasn't able to check out the buildings as much as I'd like, the Wilshire and US Bank looked pretty cool. But really, I wasn't impressed by the others at all. I know LA has amazing architecture, I did tour the Griffith-WOW.

Nonetheless, I haven't been to LA since 2006, and I must say I was not overly impressed as I have been in the past.

The airport was a joke, the city was filthy, even in Beverly Hills (where we stayed), it was just ok. Infrastructure needs loads of money.

We took the kids to Disney, so that was, well....Disney. Of course they lost their minds and Walt got a ton more of my money, what cha gunna do? The restaurants in LA were amazing though. And my son caught his first fish on the Santa Monica Pier, so that was cool.

All and all, I must say I was very happy to land at ABIA. Our airport is fantastic. The roads in and out are pretty bad, but once I saw the city skyline....man, I fell in love with our town all over again.

Can't wait to see what we look like in 5 years.

Nice! Sounds like you had fun. Even for me being pro-NorCal/Bay Area, SoCal/LA is always fun to visit. To me, there's just so many things to do down there as it's so BIG.

Their downtown core isn't as nice as other major cities in my opinion but they have been getting a lot better, especially around Staples Center. The variety of food is top notch also. Next time you're down there, go to Korea town and grab some KBBQ! Also Grand Market Central if you haven't had a chance to.

I have the same sentiment of Griffith Observatory as you. It's like a must go when you're there.

I actually don't remember going to LAX as I usually drive down with my family (~5-6 hour drive from San Jose) but I do remember going to the smaller airports in their surrounding area and they're fairly easy to access but also old.

For sure Austin's skyline is going to be AMAZING in the 2020s

After what happened in New Orleans with the partial collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel, I've been thinking about the shear number of buildings currently under construction in Austin. I was driving around DT and West Campus just trying to take it all in. It made me think on how much work inspectors have just to inspect all of these sites. I wonder how such a major flaw in the Hard Rock Hotel in NO could have been overlooked? I just hope nothing like that ever happens here let alone anywhere else.

Shout out the COA permitting dept.
Just got ROW permit for Halloween on my street in Zilker. No static, easy to do....highly recommended. The city was a breeze to deal with. Did it all over email.

I'm quick to give them shit when they slip, and they have with me a couple times in the past, so I want to balance that out.

There is a certain building in Austin whose construction issues could have easily killed people and we're lucky that it didn't. That was hopefully recently rectified.

This is basically how I feel every time I return to Charlotte from a West Coast excursion. Found things to appreciate out there, but always return with a renewed appreciation for my city.

9-1-1: Lone Star premiers on FOX in January. They are currently filming around town and are using an old skyline shot in the trailer. It stars Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler. It will also be cancelled after half a season.

Form the trailer on IMDB:

Why will it be canceled after half a season?

I like Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel for that matter, but I don't watch much tv. I usually watch movies. Still, I do like their comedy and the tone of their shows, so I catch them every once in a while.

I don't watch either one of them. Actually, I've given up all late night talk shows. Let us know how the set looks.

Well, I just watched the first half of Jimmy Fallon and time for bed, will watch the rest tomorrow. One big ad for Austin and UT so far, but actually pretty cool.
