the MTO can kiss it.
They don't allow the 'H' logo, but they allow mega-TV's on the side of the QEW/Gardiner on your way into TO.

The Gardiner is run/governed by the City of Toronto.
So we could put 20 "H" logos along the LINC or RHVP if we wanted... Hamilton Owns/Governs it.

yah I've always wondered about those poles, do they do anything at all? I always wanted to fire coming out of them. Were they added during the Bay St renewal?

^^ Ya, they were a part of the whole streetscaping process.
They're not functional in any way whatsoever... they're more part of this whole art project the city is getting into.
They want to add art to like all public spaces, so why not take advantage while reno'ing an entire street? (ESPECIALLY when the Canadian Gov't is paying for a crap-load of it)!

Natural Resources Canada: Government of Canada Establishes Advisory Board for Relocation of CANMET-MTL

HAMILTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 18, 2007) - MP David Sweet (Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale), on behalf of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, announced today that an 18-member advisory board has been established for the relocation of the CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory (CANMET-MTL) from Ottawa to McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) in Hamilton.

The board includes representatives from industry, academia and government who will provide counsel to Minister Lunn on issues related to the relocation of the CANMET-MTL.

Today at McMaster Innovation Park, Mr. Sweet, along with Peter George, President of McMaster University, also unveiled a sign at the future site of the lab and announced that the detailed building design is underway.

Budget 2006 and Budget 2007 allocated funding for the relocation of CANMET-MTL to a new, state-of-the-art research facility at MIP in Hamilton. The relocation will help CANMET-MTL reposition itself as a leader in research for the steel, pipeline, automotive materials and other metal manufacturing industries. The move supports the Government of Canada's commitment to create a Knowledge Advantage in Canada with the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world.

"McMaster Innovation Park will attract new companies, create highly skilled jobs and establish a world-class site for research in material sciences," said Mr. Sweet. "It's the perfect location for CANMET-MTL - a place that combines the best people, outstanding skills, new ideas and advanced technologies from industry, academia and the public sector - to create a competitive edge for Canada."

"The co-location of the CANMET personnel at the MIP, working along-side university and private sector researchers, will strengthen Canada's manufacturing sector," said Dr. Peter George, President of McMaster University. "At a time when our manufacturers are under so much pressure, combining private sector resources with those of government and universities will create a formidable force in materials and manufacturing."

Following completion of the detailed building design, construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2008, with staff scheduled to relocate beginning April 2010.

CANMET-MTL is Canada's leading materials research facility, supporting excellence and innovation in industry. It is being relocated to the heart of Canada's automotive and metal manufacturing sectors. The relocation will enhance CANMET-MTL's ability to support industry by contributing to the development and commercialization of new materials and products.

The Government of Canada is supporting Canadian researchers and innovators in developing new ideas and bringing them to the marketplace through Canada's Science and Technology Strategy.

Remember the design hasn't been finalized yet, so it could look different.

That rendering isn't exactly what the sign out on Longwood looks like. The Longwood sign has a more closer up rendering of the building. Basically it's the same format.

Ya, it's not bad.
Let's hope the architecture gets a little "edgier" than the current box... but if it's the Gov't bldgng it, chances are it'll be plain-jane.

looks good but it's hard to tell from such a small rendering if it will be great. but if it's part of the diamond + schmidt overall plan, the building will be LEEDs certified and tie into the overall wastewater management (where greywater and stormwater are fed to onsite marshes instead of into the sewers) etc... any motion on this site is awesome though, it's going to be one of the gems of the city in terms of economy, innovation, community, sustainability etc.. the faster things go up the better!

Next year is gonna be a good year for the Innovation Park. McMaster will start the recruitment for companies to locate or re-locate at the Innovation Park and yes companies have requested information on the Park. So it's looking really good for the economic side of Hamilton.

awesome news. I assume you've gathered this info from work?

Let's just hope the city keeps the entire innovation district free for new companies and great jobs. not the big box stuff being attempted.

Got one of those year end review and a review of the coming new year yesterday. Said next year will be an exciting year and the recruitment will be in full gear. Once these companies see CANMET and Camco under construction they'll see it's serious and will get interested.

No, no names just a taste of what to expect next year. I do know that McMaster would really like to get a pharmaceutical company to MIP, they and Mohawk College have courses and programs on pharmacy and biotech and it would really help tie in everything. Most pharmaceutical companies are mostly located at Montreal and then some at the GTA, mostly Mississauga. So it will likely be of re-location and major perks like large research grant accounts.

I love this project and hopefully in the future it can employ me when im old enough. I cant wait for it to start picking up.I pray this is all done as planned and they dont end up half assing it but then again its mcmaster so i think i can trust them for this. I think it will completely transform the surrounding area to be more beautiful then it already is as many high income jobs are created and will most likely choose to live nearby.
