Interesting, I'm not surprised it failed though, the suites had no kitchen areas or appliances.

He's doing the same thing in Windsor that he does in London, just sitting on land blaming the economy. Meanwhile, high rise condos are going up all over the place in London. He owns large buildings in downtown London that have been vacant for years.

Ya, this is what I was afraid of all along. The guy seems more a speculator than a true developer. Wasting our time.

Census results for population were released today. Decent growth in the city limits (more than I was expecting) and that only includes up to May of last year.

I was afraid Windsor would have a population drop again.

It was about what I was expecting. Quite happy to see the city proper growing at a healthy clip, I think it's a good sign.
Kind of surprised Leamington lost population, but I guess the Heinz closure really was a big blow!
I predict that by the next census in five years, our metro population will have grown by 6%, double our current rate of 3%. Things are really looking good for the city, finally!!!

I'm surprised that Tecumseh actually lost population when Windsor grew by 3%. Not too often you see a suburb loses while the core city gains.

The growth in Windsor has even accelerated since May of last year. Disappointing to see the drops in Chatham and Sarnia (but not surprising). The Southwest - west of London - just can't attract immigrants, the population is aging, and it's too far from Toronto's influence.

I wonder how much the improvement of downtown Detroit will help Windsor or if it has much of an impact at all. I'm holding out hope that one day there will be a ferry or a gondola or something that will promote a pedestrian crossing between the downtowns. With Detroit's new light rail line opening soon that would make for a good connection.

I think the 3% growth posted for the city was also partly buoyed by the influx of Syrian refugees Windsor took in, which numbered 1500 people or so.

I definately think it helped a bit, but at least half of them didn't arrive until after the census, so they wouldn't be counted. I think that the improved local economy played the biggest role in attracting people back to the city more than anything.

Also a lot of people have bought older homes in the older urban areas of the city, because of the very affordable prices there. Many were priced out of the more desirable growing areas and suburbs and had to look at the inner city.

At least most of Essex County is doing well now, unlike Chatham-Kent and Lambton County.

There's no doubt in my mind that a newly booming Detroit will have a positive effect on the Windsor area. Pretty soon both cities will have multiple construction cranes in their skylines with the improving economies. That will be an amazing sight to see!

Most of the refugees weren't counted in the last census. The big game changer was the 1200 new jobs in the Chrysler plant and the hundreds of spin off jobs.

So happy they're finally spending the money to properly design Festival Plaza, it's been an ugly asphalt mess for far too long!

Also, it's about time they finish this last part of Ouellette Ave. streetscaping, it's the worst stretch of the street, and is just so ugly. I'm hoping this will help with the sketchiness of the area.
It's too bad that they did not put in bike lanes when the rest of the street was redone years ago, so dumb!

My wife is working downtown in the Universities new building on Ferry street and she's been telling me that there has been a lot of sub-contractor activity in the ground floor of the Chrysler building on the Pitt street side, you know, the empty side.

I wonder what's finally going on in there?

Hopefully they're starting to build the retail section that was supposed to go in on the Pitt st. side! Probably not though, lol.
