I agree. Maybe by then they could build it to the orig. height/floors.

The hole sitting there for 5 years (IIRC) is embarrassing.

New Video?

Hey, I found this video on TMT's website, and I don't remember it being posted here before. Google tagged it with a date of Sep 12, 2012. Anywhoo, enjoy if you haven't seen it.

^It needs to go to full height. Looks too stumpy with the redesign.

That seems oddly appropriate for Stumptown.

Stumpy just seems to be what we do. Presumably it reflects economic demand. 24 stories is better than a hole in the ground but it still seems kind of pathetic.

Is the "pre-construction LEED Platinum certification" a new development or have they had that in hand for awhile?

Is this actually happening now? Are they actually starting construction in 2013? I so loathe the PAW Hole.

I didn't see anything in the video to indicate it would be shorter than they originally planned...

^From the originally proposed 450' with the top ten floors of condos. The renderings shown in the link looks marginally taller than the Fox Tower.

accually the 450' will be the new version height. Around 422 to the top of Maint. Box, and 450 to the top of mast. The origional was over 520 to the mast. It doesn't look bad, but as usual in Portland, there's a reason for that Stumptown nickname. I remember the Morrison Tower(By KPF). Awesome design ended up being the plain jane stumpy ODS building. Sure is frustrating because, while height doesn't always equal a good design, these stumpifications made the buildings mediocre bigtime! Arrrrgh.

Also I'm not sure if I just missed it, but is there a timeline for construction/completion yet?

totally agree.... If Nike would spend their $150+ million expansion plans on locating in PAW they could go higher and place their Swoosh on the top and rename the tower... The same architecture firm (TVA) designed the Fox/PAW Towers as well as the Nike campus...

As much as I have harshed on Nike over the years for their manufacturing model, I'm really hoping they invest in the Zidell property. They're pretty much all we have for home-grown corporate wealth (thanks to the sweat of Asian kids ); they should have a striking presence in the central city. Regarding PAW, I'm guessing they want to design their own campus-like setting rather than go into a high-rise...

If they expand into Portland I'm sure the Zidell site will be their preference..

Getting back on topic: I would LOVE to see PAW become Nike Tower. While I understand that Nike brings a lot of jobs and money to Oregon, they often feel more like a neighbor who erects a giant fence in order to not be a part of the community. Portland seems more than happy to embrace Nike. I'd like to see Nike embrace Portland. Each could benefit more from a stronger partnership.

PAW is dead. In two weeks, this thread will be 6 years old and all we have is the [expletive] hole. The PAW Hole. I doubt that'll change before 2020.

The city needs some sort of law to prevent developers from tearing the city apart and then sitting on a construction site due to a lack of motivation. And, yes, I do believe that's the problem here. It's a lack of motivation. If TMT had to build with this site or lose it, they'd be building. If their options were build it, cap it and build a temporary park, or lose it entirely, we'd have a park now. Instead, we have a construction site that will exist for another decade.

TMT has no motivation. I wish TMT would sell the site. They're just going to sit on it and wait. And wait.

The very optimistic side of me hopes they are in discussion with Salesforce.com which just decided to lease the entire yet to be built new 375' tower in San Francisco.

They might as well write off this loss and sell to another developer.

The vacant hole to the family feud, I've lost respect for TMT. Economy aside, they've handled this poorly.

But at least there is plywood bordering the plot with art on it! lol
