I especially like this one of Southfield:

While growing up in Michigan and riding with my parents to Detroit, I knew the Big City was close by when we got to Southfield. If I remember correctly that big gold building in the center was American Motors Corporation's (maker of the Jeep) headquarters before Chrysler bought them.

^close, but not quite - that would be the american center, which is a mile or two west.

i'm going to visit detroit again soon. hard to believe it's been 5yrs since i lived there, and i was only witnessing the beginnings of the rebirth. nice pics as well, tony.

WOW! good job, the photo of the Ford building looks like it was scanned from an old promotional postcard from the 1970s.

The first photo looks like an imaginary city on a model railroad layout.

Good luck with your new career.

Detroit is another city that I love looking at posts about. I absolutely love the canyons of prominent vintage skyscrapers downtown. Unique. I didn't know that the downtown was that thick beyond the clusters around the Penobscot (one of my all-time favorites) and Renaissance towers. Best wishes for a speedy economic recovery, Detroit!

Nice pics! It's good to hear that things aren't as bad as they are made out to be. I watched the documentary 'Detropia' recently, and it left me feeling depressed, but this has the opposite effect.
