A firm called 96 Clay Partnership, LLC is seeking approval in connection with a proposed 40-story development at 94 Clay Street, 1239, 1241, and 1243 McCarter Highway/Route 21, and 316-320, 322-326, and 328-330 Mount Pleasant Avenue, according to a legal notice. The building that is being planned would consist of 484 residential units and ground-floor commercial space.

It will take 15-20 years, but Newark will eventually have a very impressive skyline. The transit connections and urban bones are finally bearing fruit. There will be tons of residential towers, eventually.

The main attraction here is the proximity to Newark - Broad Street Station on the NEC/NJ Transit line.

According to google, it's a 24 minute trip to New York Penn Station, including the walking time to the station and the train into the city.

This development is kind of a pioneer. Many more may be proposed if it's successful and changes the area. As you can see from the aerial, it isn't much going on.

Will this be in addition to 96 Clay Street or will this be a single tower occupying both 94 and 96 Clay Street?

These GoogleEarth images are dated, as there is already a large development built across the street. But most of the area is open for redevelopment, and a lot is on the boards.
As a matter of fact, there is development in the area taking shape on both sides of the river.

What a massive improvement over what's currently on the site.
