Without speaking to anything but the aesthetics, these turned out really great. Even better as a realized thing than the illustrations suggested. Sculptural and handsome and just really nice.

Picture 2 shows the landscaping between the 2 towers, and while I don't think the actual looks exactly like the drawings, it is extensive and doesn't look like there was much VEing going on. Major hardscapeing, an entire grove of trees, etc. And the green roof is in place.

Dwight Perkins designed probably hundreds of schools across the Midwest, and Perkins Eastman does a similar volume of work today. I'm not sure there's anything serendipitous about Perkins Eastman's involvement.

I was mostly commenting on the fact that they listed out many of the architects that designed buildings on campus but left out DHP. I lived in the building Perkins designed and was always disappointed that most people (outside of us architecture fans) have no idea who he is.

Several Hyde Park developments in full bloom
Allison Mattyus - Hyde Park Herald - 7/27/2016
Vue53 is expected to be finished by mid-September.
...

According to Peter Cassel, the director of community development for MAC properties, the developer for the project, a foundation permit was submitted during this summer and construction for Solstice will begin this fall.
...

Timbuk2, a company that sells customizable bags for daily use and travel, Insomnia Cookies, a late night cookie shop that delivers fresh milk and cookies to your door, and Dollop Coffee Shop will all open up shop within Campus North Residential Commons.

...
After being approved by the City of Chicago Planning Commission in May, the next step for the boutique hotel, located on the southeast corner of Dorchester Avenue and 53rd Street, is to begin construction.

Ed Small, the president of Smart Hotels in charge of the project, said that they are targeting to begin construction this fall. He said they anticipate the entire construction process to take 15 months.

Obamas choose Jackson Park for Presidential Library. Thought Washington Park had a leg up on the former.

wow, good catch! unfortunately, it looks like Solstice has gone through some very serious and disappointing VE'ing... lost a lot of it's grace, IMO

Unfortunately Solstice seems to have changed from a building with a dazzling facade to more of a Soviet prison-style apartment complex. I hope it looks better than this when built (just as I think Vue53 has surpassed its drawings.)

It will be very close to the Obama Library and should be a high demand, signature building not a VE knockoff.

Hitchcock Hall: http://housing.uchicago.edu/houses_h...itchcock_hall/ (An interesting detail that this page leaves out is that Annie Hitchcock actually helped fund DHP's education at MIT).

That rendering on the Studio Gang page is super new, I had shown the page to someone a week or so ago and it still had the rendering that is shown on the Herald's page. I checked the zoning docs from earlier this year and they still show the old design. I think they would need to file a request to make this level of change to the design, given that Mesa had to file one to change the facade on Vue53, but I could be wrong.

Solstice received a heavy does of VE, but from what I have overheard the owner was not fond of the new look, so I am guessing their will be another iteration.
