"Vintage" Suburban pics

There's no thread for old pics from the burbs -

Here's some pics from darrelinyvr on flickr:

An old aerial of Brentwood Mall when it was partially outdoor plaza (on the upper level) with a higher ceiling for the mall corridor):

Compare with Global Air Photo taken May 13, 2010:

And old pics of Lansdowne Park just around opening in 1974:

I remember being in Brentwood in the 80s and it was an enclosed mall with a strange staircase to an upper level (of offices(?) - so I think it was only partially open-air - not like a California open air mall.

Th teflon roof went on in the 90s i think.

The "upstairs" had a Sports Experts and a tiny mall operations office. The mall got the teflon roof in 89' or 90'.

Seems like a bit of the outdoor plaza still exists.

i moved to burnaby in 91 and it had a roof than, i had never experienced it without the roof on prior visits to the area

I remember going there once thinking there was a grocery store in the mall and there wasn't one and had to go back all the way to metrotown bus cause the brentwood area had no grocery stores

The mall did have a grocery store until just before the renovation. It was a SuperValue and it was located where Zellers/Target now stands. You can see it in the first aerial picture
