Hayes Valley

I took a walk around Hayes Valley last night.

1554 market is still stalled...

22 Franklin seems to be moving pretty slow...

555 Fulton continues to slowly put the facade on. There also was a planning notification on the ground floor for New Seasons Market to take the ground floor retail space.

LagunaHayes looks nearly done.
Back side on the corner of Laguna and Ivy...

Front Side on the corner of Laguna and Hayes...

Overall for the neighborhood I was impressed with how well the ground floor retail in all the recently completed buildings has filled in (450 Hayes, 400 Grove, Bldg next to Boys&Girls Club, etc).

To anyone interested in the neighborhood and/or having a grocery store in it, take note of the history of opposition and of the Planning Commission hearing on Aug. 31 at 12 noon.

this is actually a left-over from last week

and this one. this seems to be done, but I'm guessing they are waiting to open it until the sidewalks at either end are also finished (they seem to be taking their sweet time with those)

now from this evening...

the market at Lumina will open next week. nice to see some lights at sidewalk-level on Folsom

Moscone

still working on the roadway

east slope of Potrero Hill, 1395 22nd St

and a couple from Dogpatch...

one last shot of Abaca, Third St side, now that it's done

the 815 Tennessee project is really starting to be visible from Third St

the office building on Townsend at Sixth, from the west

and from Bluxome Alley on the east side, looking across the Sixth St off-ramp

the 'back' of 855 Brannan (along Eighth St) is starting to show its wavy 'corduroy' skin

north slope of Potrero Hill edition...

75 Arkansas (at 17th) is underway...

Quote:
...four-story dorm for students enrolled at the California College of the Arts ... while technically only 30 units of housing across the top three floors, each multi-room unit includes a small living/dining room and kitchenette and the 30 units would be outfitted with a total of 228 beds.

The ground floor of the building includes 7,400 square feet of retail space on the corner...
and will look something like this

right across the street from the above, the 127-unit project at 88 Arkansas looks like it's gotten going too

looking back east along 17th at both sites (with the Exchange in the distance)

the site for 299-unit 1601 Mariposa has been cleared and there is some equipment on site

580 De Haro also on the march

Thanks yet again for all the images, timbad.

Also, according to the Salesforce Tower cam, it looks like there's action at 325 Fremont.

in more context

and, the little park/playground at 17th and Folsom is open and was being throughly enjoyed when I was by there yesterday

The Eddy and Taylor Family Apartments had their official ground breaking today. Nothing that inspiring, but it is great to see another downtown parking lot developed.

^^Mission anti-gentrification activists said big windows show a buildibg is for rich people. I guess it's clear this one is for poor people. Why does it have to look so fortress-like?

It's always fun to see the rendering artist's vision of the people living in and around these structures.

Some pictures from this week. What do you guys think about Saleforce? Its not groundbreaking or anything, but I do prefer it to LA's Wilshire Grand (judging purely on its daytime aesthetics).

I'm not trying to be bias because I'm from the Bay Area but I too like it more than the Wilshire in LA. It's honestly a massive beast and looks great in our skyline. I love it and I'm happy it's basically done

I like it as well. I think it's a great nod to SF's past, while taking it to the future. And it doesn't look like it's trying too hard, but makes a statement with its height, timeless silhouette, and cladding details.

Your pictures are amazing as well. Thanks, ConstructDTLA!

I also like it better than Wilshire Grand: For me it's cleaner, purer, more elegant. Just better architecture (without the gimmick of a tall spire) and it makes such an amazing difference in the skyline, eliminating the former "tabletop effect", giving the downtown a real center and focus and so on.

To be fair to LA, I like the US Bank Tower, which has long been their tallest, better than Wilshire Grand also and that will remain the icon of downtown LA as far as I'm concerned.

Finally, I really want to thank ConstructDTLA for the photo of 350 Bush. That is the first time I've really gotten a sense of the finished building. I haven't been by there (which tells you how much the center of the financial district has shifted south) and haven't previously seen a photo showing the whole structure from the front (I guess it's the lens allowing you to do that).

Thanks guys. Always a pleasure to walk around a bustling urban environment.

I did a side-by-side comparison of Wilshire Grand vs Salesforce on the DTLA Development Facebook page incase anyone is interested:

150 Van Ness - Hayes Street View 08/25/2017

The last concrete had been poured on the top floor. Mechanical room structures and other odds & ends being formed now.

150 Van Ness - Hayes Street View 08/27/2017

This view is from Polk St.
1) Windows are being installed fast.

2) The concrete has been poured for the top floor.

3) It appears that white panels are being installed between the windows on the Polk St. side & the corner of Hayes St.

4) Scaffolding is being installed - I wonder what the finish will look like!?

Living across the street for 46 years from what was 2 parking lots, I often remarked to myself what a waste of valuable space! So glad to see it finally developed.

Salesforce looks good... I just regret they found it necessary to rebrand the TT.... so lame.

They desparately need money for Phase 2 and building that is much more important than what they call the thing. Citizens will call it what they want (I still call the thing in Chicago the "Sears Tower" because I can't keep up with its other names).

in Dogpatch, the little plaza on the south end of the northern Indiana St project (which has a name, but I've forgotten it)

and 815 Tennessee

jumping around, 855 Brannan has lost more of its shroud on the Eighth St side

99 Rausch

Moscone

the passageway between Lumina and Bay Area Metro Center (the MTC building) is open

the sidewalk on the east (Main St) side still looks like this, but I did note they were pouring the curb on the corner of Harrison and Main yesterday, which was the first sign of activity I'd seen in a while

the office building on Townsend getting some skin on the Townsend side now

close-up of the two 'wings' of 100 Hooper on the Seventh St side

with 100 Hooper, Potrero 1010, 1 Henry Adams, 888 Seventh, the future CCA expansion, and I suppose you can throw 855 Brannan into the mix as well, inexorably transforming the west side of this stretch of Seventh St and Showplace Square more in general, the Recology facility next door to 100 Hooper has really become an out-of-place aberration. I think it's time for it to move to somewhere like the no-man's land between the freeways south of Potrero Hill where its habitat would again surround it

speaking of which, work continues on I-don't-know-what next to the Caltrain tracks down there

couple of 'misc'
