Looking back on this thread, it's crazy to think that it took a year to get from the first rebar being laid at the bottom of the pit to having the first columns above grade. Here's hoping the next year of progress is much faster than that (should be).

If SSP uses CTBUH criteria (see below) then Concord Sky is indeed a super-tall and belongs in the Super-talls Construction section.

@Koops65 has a 300.6 metres (super-tall) height listed on his SSP diagram for Concord Sky, despite UT's official height of 299m.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) measures total height from "the level of the lowest, significant, open-air, pedestrian entrance to.... (the Architectural Top)".

@innsertnamehere kindly put the super-tall discussion to bed.

There is a primary entrance on the south end of the tower which is at a lower elevation, making this a 300.5 metre super-tall according to CTBUH criteria.
South entrance is circled in red below.

So T-Dot does have 3 super-talls under construction!

MODS: even the CTBUH has Concord Sky as super-tall @ 300.2 metres.

Thx for the move @chris!!

Concord Sky | 300.5m | 85s | Concord Adex | a—A , KPF l u/c

No idea why rendering below was ever released (and is still the primary render in the UrbanToronto database). It looks nothing like the actual architectural docs (except the shape).

UT

A year ago the architectural docs showed unitized curtainwall on the west elevation of the the tower above the podium/heritage element right to the top . The east elevation has unitized curtainwall to the top of the crown, except for window-wall set back in the balcony sections.

The same docs have now appeared in the March 2024 submission for site plan approval. BTW the original design architects KPF when this was Cresford project, remain on the docs of this final version.

West elevation is on the right, east elevation on the left. Note the curtain-wall to the top of the crown.

Ushahid

Heritage at grade.

Below is a section of the east elevation with curtainwall + balconies.

This older rendering from KPF was included in the March 2024 site plan approval submission and is a better characterization of what the tower should look like:

I prefer this design by a wide margin. The white accents make it look much better, imo, than the light-blue "shard of glass" monolith seen in the other renders.

Totally disagree... that render looks potentially full of spandrel/window-wall.

And looks nothing like actual docs.

Yeah I have to go with the slab as well. The white just looks too busy.

Different aesthetic preferences, but I find the white outlining confers some character and appeal, whereas the blue glass on its own is incredibly boring. We have too many blue-glass towers as it is.

The thing that still has me shaking in my boots... Concord has never spent a dime on curtain-wall for a project in this city... much less the acres of it on this giant.

A 4th is on the way soon and will hopefully begin construction before any of these finish

The shorter tower is already under construction

I love this design. This will be huge for Toronto's identify IMO. And Frank Gehry no less.

Exactly as he says:

Quote:
"You think about the buildings in other cities like Rockefeller Center, where there’s an ensemble of buildings that create public spaces at the ground, and still exist years later. […] I believe this will have the same impact," Urbanize Toronto quoted him as saying on Wednesday.

Hopefully it all gets completed as designed.

You likely know this already but Gehry grew up on Beverly Street... not very far north of the FORMA site.

So a super-tall is quite literally a home-coming to remember (more so than his addition to the Art Gallery of Ontario imo) .
