It's difficult to tell if that's her in the 'Spider Pool photo.

I've only seen Tura Satana with long hair in Russ Meyer's 1965 cult movie "Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!".

But I agree there's a resemblance.

The circus comes to the Hollywood Bowl, October 1958.

And get this, they actually moved the shell off to one side! I had no idea this was even possible.

Otto Rothchield Collection http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/visit/h...timeline/1950s

You can clearly see the decorative fountain that was installed in front of the stage in 1953.

Am I the only person who didn't know the shell could be moved? I was shocked with I first saw this photograph.

One more item before I turn in for the night.

Here we have an interesting photograph of Abraham B. Rothrock, foreman of a grading camp.

ebay from last year

from the reverse:

Abraham B. Rothrock
Ballona L.A.
1910 Census- 42 years old.
Foreman, Grading Camp
also Long Beach contractor, street hand.

Sign in background says
"Long Beach 12 Mi"

Here's a closer look at that Long Beach sign.

detail

I believe the other sign says 'Compton Market'.

I thought your "Betty Blue" guess was good. Better match re the chest size.

Betty's ashes are scattered on the grounds of the Playboy Mansion. Nice.

P.S.
Whoops just saw your warning e_r, at the top of the page.

I didn't know it could be moved either-- there are a few references online to the 1929-2003 shell being equipped with "skates" to allow it to be shunted aside. The storage area appears in some aerial and rear views:

But this image was also very interesting... apparently circa 1962 there was a proposal to move Angels Flight to the Bowl...

Whoa, Angels Flight at the Bowl! I've never heard of that proposal.

So the plan was to take people to their seats?

__

Oh, and thanks GW for explaining that plexiglass air duct in the Lincoln 'Premiere'.

'When equipped
with optional "factory air conditioning in 1956-57," the vents were located overhead, much like those in an aircraft. The cool air
was directed to the roof via a pair of clear plastic ducts visible through the rear window at each side, connecting upward from
the rear package tray."

Just like you said.

You couldn't ask for a more noirish looking place.

Let's travel to the west side and check out Santa Monica High School, circa 1955.

Did boys really wear suits to school?

or did they dress up for the photographer

After a long Christmas break, it's probably about time to get back to posting Julius Shulman photos. I thought I'd start the new year with a relaxing time by the pool at the Beverly Hills Tennis Club. This is "Job 3915: Qvale and Associates, Beverly Hills Tennis Club (Beverly Hills, Calif.), 1965".

That's the only color image. The black & white pictures show the clubhouse.

Note the reflection in the window.

All from Getty Research Institute

The Beverly Hills Tennis Club is still operating at 340 N Maple Drive. Although it's only just visible in this aerial view (and we're looking the wrong way), I believe the building across 3rd Street is the one from the reflection.

Nah, according to the 'documentary' evidence, boys did not wear suits to school in 1955. I spy one kid in a sports jacket, but he was probably a newbie:

A happy cheer to all who liked and cherished my previous post on the demise of the love-birds on Virgil Ave. At least I've finally brought a modicum of decorum to NLA. Enough of those naughty boobs. What we like is sangre y tripas....eh, right T2, ER, GW and all the tried and true noirishers?

Oh, BTW, remember this George Cummings gem? Decorum at its finest.

Want some more noir? Does anyone know if there's a story behind this incident? Abridged from the description:

"Stabbing -- murder at 769 Yale Street, March 18 1956. Sprawled on back seat is Gabriel Carmona, 14, of 729 North Hill Street. Carmona's mother, Mrs. Petra Carmona, in rear seat of police car, she is being fanned by Isabel Arguino."
