Haven't heard much in a while. I was wondering the same thing the other day. Hope this gets going soon. They said they wanted to start work this summer.

Finally! Work is happening. The Old Springfield Beer Distributor buildings are being demolished. Once this is complete, the old Vocational High School will be demo'd.

Awesome to see. This tower looks good and will be very noticeable in its location. As nice as South Street bridge looks, it can appear dead at times. Hopefully when completed it can add some life to the area.

Are they done the clean up that was needed inside the former structure?

Lots of equipment working today, looks like they're starting to demo the large brick building.

The owners of the townhomes/condos directly behind it (2400 South) will suddenly get a much nicer view. Finally a view that will make their homes closer to being worth the high prices that Toll charged them back before the unfortunate market crash.

Cheers,
G.

I wonder why nothing is happening on the main structure thus far. It would seem like a pretty standard demo project.

HAHA. I think it's pretty far from a "standard" demo project; that thing was built like a tank (and to hold them). I've been wondering whether they are going to implode it or not. If not, it's going to be a looooong process!

But, in the short term, I'm not sure if they even need to address it in Phase One. I don't remember the site plans well enough, but I thought they might be able to get Phase 1 done with it still there, or at least enough room to hold off on demo until construction really gets going.

Yeah, from what I can see from the Walnut Street bridge, they are in fact doing demo on the roof. There was machinery and a ton of guys up there. Maybe they are demoing and gutting what they can and then imploding the rest of it?

I think this may be a little too close to homes to implode. But they should be able to use a wrecking ball on this site.
