East Hastings maybe? The Lux store type won't be caught dead hanging out there. Surrey is changing.

The May 10, 2016 Brentwood Leasing Plans (since removed from the website)
had "Luxury Retail" in dark purple adjacent to the new south Anchor of the mall.
... and remember that the plans show a valet drop-off for the south Anchor department store.

This Luxury Wing is marked as Phase 4 of the mall redevelopment.
(So don't expect luxury stores on Phase 1 opening)

Luxury shopping district are not great places to be. The neighbourhoods that are pleasant to spend time in have funky shops and funky people. Money pushes that out. If Brentwood has a problem, it is so many new buildings with high rents that exclude the off-beat and interesting. Jane Jacobs long ago pointed out the need for buildings of a variety of ages: which is to say, for a mix that includes cheap rents.

Never mind the social problems and attitudes that often come with wealth. I hear about dysfunctional wealthy families from a private tutor in Vancouver. Friends in Dunbar have watched their street hollowed out. There is substantial research showing that rich people are - on average - more selfish. I worry that my son is too fortunate as it is. A neighbourhood of fancy clothes and flashy people is not where I would want my child to grow up.

As to the Surrey remark, extreme wealth goes with extreme poverty. It is a pattern that repeats throughout the world. In the greater scheme of things, payday loans and luxury fashion are symbiotic. I don't want either in my neighbourhood.

there's going to be 300 stores? if 12 of them are luxury that's a bad thing?

brentwood is already pretty fancy by most canadian standards. You don't see many porsches, teslas, audis, bmw's etc in most areas as you see a lot of them in the brentwood area.

Bingo. I'm glad someone understands the social and societal issues that are at play here.

Have any of you ever been to Yorkdale Mall in Toronto? It has a great mix of stores, an awesome, very successful mall.

No disrespect but comparing the Miami desgn district to Brentwood mall is like comparing Miami to Burnaby.

Yeah, and that's just SOLO. Imagine when the huge Amazing Brentwood is built out kitty-corner in (?)9 years, plus the "infill" high rise projects. An urban valley, green in the center.
Brentwood and Metrotown on either opposing slope, the "401" and the greenway. Good stuff, nice urban landscape, I rather think.

in terms of brands, i think brentwood will look a lot better, the miami design district the part that lvmh is involved in isn't that exciting and its in a formerly crappy part of miami

Pretty much the same as the last one though. Just a new Title "The Amazing Brentwood - Coming Spring 2019"

No it ain't. And I wish it's already 2019. Feels like it's taking forever to get the commercial/retail portion available to the public. Lol!

I don't mind the mix of luxury and non-luxury at The Amazing Brentwood (TAB). In terms of the lux store openings, perhaps they'll just start small first with the smaller non-French luxury brands(?). But it's rather early yet so I'll just wait and see. The lux section is supposed to be in Phase 4 and that's quite a while yet. And since we have Metrotown nearby, TAB definitely has to offer something different (apart from the Cineplex offerings) so people would want to go there/find it there.

I still hope there'll be a decent Japanese dollar store (Daiso or Muji, etc) at TAB. Lol! And that the fashion stores won't look like a mess as it does at Zara in Metrotown. What is it with people just throwing clothes all over? Or perhaps Zara itself does that. Probably just too many shoppers compared with Park Royal's Zara (sooo clean and organized and well-lighted).

I also hope to see more walkable eateries/restos in the area/TAB, and bubble tea at the TAB food court. Lol!

Is the retail portion going to open in 2019 and not fall 2018?

Nice video. May have helped convince L Catterton to partner with Shape (among other things for sure). Lol! I expect they had reps come over and see the site and all other construction going on in the area, and not just at TAB. Plus our pretty Skytrain station and the view of the mountains. Lol!

Now I think we are lucky to have a forward-thinking Mayor Derek Corrigan, but I still I feel bad for the residents affected by the demovictions/displacements going on in the Metrotown area.

Just a glimpse into a commercial/indoor/outdoor development similar to TAB concept in the CBD in the Philippines. Like a real-life version as against the TAB video.
This one was redeveloped around 10-20 years ago before TAB. And sections added. The lux area was added in the mid-2000s? Mix of regular and lux stores and different cafes and restos. Residential on top, near the cinemas, but not massive towers. This redevelopment won an international design award or something at the time.

At the 16:52 mark is the row of restaurants with covered outdoor seating.
At the 22:22 mark is a view of the cafes and restos by the plaza, ground level.
At the 00:22 or so mark is where the view of the plaza is. The plaza is also like a park.
View from the 2nd level is around the 27:47 mark.
For luxury watch stores + a Harry Winston, they're at the 13:05 mark, a burglar's paradise. Lol!
At the 29:50 mark is the cinema, amusement, and food court area.
There's also a musuem attached to the development.

At night it's quite prettier, and very much full at the cinemas, restos and cafes, especially on Fridays. Families, kids, business people, expats, tourists, and office workers. Quite a mix.

And so I wish it was already 2019 in Brentwood, it's so behind. Lol!
