More from today:

Morning haze, looking east from Ebisu towards Tokyo Bay.

Looking north towards Ebisu Station, Shibuya, and then Shinjuku.

Ebisu JR Building from Yebisu Garden Place.

America Bashi / Ebisu Station exit

All the highways are raised in Tokyo, often a good 50 feet above the ground.

The Yebisu Garden Place courtyard, setting up some obnoxious crystal chandelier they light up for every Christmas, which starts last week of October, just like in the good ol' USA.

Blimp! Met Life

Hiroo.

I work on the 30th, where most of the aerials were taken.

Yamanote trains beneath America Bashi.

Back on my roof.

Neighborhood shrubbery.

Neighborhood side street.

Shops across my place.

What a cozy, comfortable looking neighborhood. The covered plaza in front of your office is pretty cool too. And what is America Bashi?

Your new camera is fantastic, please keep the images coming!

Thanks all!

atlantaguy, America Bashi means "America Bridge", I actually have no idea why that little bridge got such a name. There's a great pub called the America Bashi Brewers Company that serves up American and Canadian microbrews, luckily just a minute's walk from my office.

Also, GO SOX!! Time to get some Sam Adams with my Boston coworkers at the Bashi right now...

The best and golden time for Tokyo was in 80s and 90s, when there was only one stunning CBD in Tokyo. Nowadays Tokyo Shanghai, Bangkok, Manila, Kuala, Jakarta, Mumbai Toronto, Vancouver, all the same, nothing but high-rise aparment buildings and CBD after vice-CBD after sub-CBD after semi-CBD...

Japan has this urban thing down so well, literally light-years ahead of Americans, we somehow don't understand the most SIMPLE things:

Side roads, make em small. This creates more compact neighborhoods. No sidewalks on side roads, this makes cars watch very carefully for peds and also makes them go slower.

Main roads, large sidewalks that often have rails protecting them from the main road.

A lot of things I just said makes sense on paper. No sidewalk? Urban Americans would scoff at the idea.
Sidewalks made with the same asphalt at the road, not tidy looking, but it works.

Your few pics of the neighborhood bring such great memories for me being raised in Japan for some years in my youth.

What a place.
