^^I saw the other day that the existing below street level stucture had been backfilled with gravel. I got pretty worried this on-again/off-again project was off again somehow But this is very reassuring.

Thumbs up Thoughts for the day...

It is good to see that seemingly all news is false until it is real.

I am very happy to see all this building activity continuing.
All who contribute help me to understand almost all elements of construction.
Now... if construction would only begin!!?? It has been a long time in starting.

Good catch and interesting article (with some bigoted comments) pseudolus. It's now corrected to say it wasn't Nelson Rockefeller's collection, but that of a Berkeley professor and his wife, along with others. Together with MoAD nearby, it bodes well for both museums that they are now Smithsonian institutions.

Thanks for posting the correction re: Rockefeller.

This project also needs to move to Highrise Construction from Proposals.

^^It seems that in order for that to happen you have to request it in the sticky thread for that purpose. I did that for Oceanwide and will do it for this. Hopefully it will work (again).

Really, really, REALLY want progress on this one to become more visible but I assume it's the existing underground garage and foundation for a previous Mexican Museum design that's causing it to take so long. Still, if they are pouring concrete--and we have pictures of that--it should be moved to U/C. If you have such pictures timbad, how about making the request it be moved. I tried but it's still here. Apparently I didn't convince them.

This has been the slowest moving project in SF. It took over 5 years to approve (because of opposition from Four Seasons among others), took forever to "break ground," and if you trace back two pages in this thread, you'll see that they barely made any progress over the past year. It seems like they're still preparing the site and demo'ing the existing structures -- they haven't really even started excavating. Not sure of the developers are anticipating the next downturn or reduced demand. But at this rate, we're looking at a 2020-21 completion date for a project that was talked about in the early 2010s. It's not like this project is that big -- it's a skinny 500 ft tower.

patience-trying, but not exactly unexpected - here's the schedule minesweeper posted on 7/4/17:

Quote:
Excavation: November 2017 to April 2018
Crane goes up: April 2018
Mat pour: June 2018
Rebar above ground: October 2018
Level 48 concrete pour: August 2019
Level 48 curtain wall: October 2019
Crane dismantled: December 2019
Certificate of occupancy: June 2020
and from almost exactly a year ago...

For some real perspective, the Board of Supervisors designated this area as a redevelopment area in 1953, which was shortly after the birth of Jesus, IIRC.

It's a rather unique site in several respects: (1) the preservation/reuse of the corner building and (2) the presence of existing deep foundations designed and built for a different design.

I suspect the time has been taken in painstaking preparation of all the existing constructions on the site for actual construction of the new project.

Yes those are, which is weird because a schedule was posted on the previous page which says the crane is supposed to go up in April.
