As a Centretowner, I look forward to seeing Jan Harder's reaction to a tower in Barrhaven.

I saw this from a distance while heading down Strandherd but wasn't able to drive by. Do you know if the cranes are at this site or the 9 storey retirement home across the street? And do you think the 2 cranes mean they will build both towers at once? I know their application had separate phase 1 and 2 towers. Thanks for any input you may have.

Good question...not sure but they set well back from strandherd which led me to believe it was this project. I’ll look closer next time I drive by.

The two cranes are the seniors apartments and assisted living buildings across the road from this site.

Cheers,
Jg

One of the two towers is increasing from 16 to 17 stories due to the addition of a mezzanine.

They have now fenced it off and are beginning prep work. Marketplace drive was closed yesterday because of it. At least that is what it looks like.

The 8 story tower beside looks huge for the area and this one is 17.

Big changes to "downtown" Barrhaven".

You can see that 8 storey tower quite well from Leitrim road west of bowesville at YOW. The 17's will really stand out.

The area is becoming a hot spot, lots of development. I like the vision of converting Barrhaven centre into a higher density spot similar to how Missisauga's Downtown is to Toronto.

It's crazy how big this looks from the greenbelt farmland. It's so out of scale with the rest of the area! I'm not complaining though, it gives Barrhaven a centre of mass, makes it feel like a real place instead of just tract housing and strip malls.

Completely agree! There are 3 cranes up at this site and the adjacent one to it.

Heading south on Woodroffe or Greenbank this thing sticks out like a sore thumb!

It's also very visible heading west on Strandherd once you pass Woodroffe.

You drive down this mini-canyon if you turn west onto Marketplace Ave from Longfields with the retirement residence on one side and this on the other.

Barrhaven is growing up

Good to see. This development is visible from Fallowfield and the 416 driving east as well.

Barrhaven and Kanata have embraced higher density development in recent years. Orleans, outside of slow developing Pertrie's Landing, has been a little slower, but we're seeing some movement. I hope to see a lot more along the Confederation Line.
