Century update Aug 13, 2008

Here are some pics from our rooftop from August 13:

Wide view of Century City

Closer view of The Century. Looks like they're at least on the 32nd floor?

The Century is looking really good and really adds to the growing skyline of Century City. Thanks for the updated pictures and what an awesome view you have.

Thanks! It's a cool view, esp when the sun is setting and reflects vibrant colors off the buildings.

Oct 25 Update

Here's some more photos from this weekend.

Broad view of Century City. At this point it is getting close to appearing nearly as tall as Fox Plaza to the right.

The Century Update, Jan 15, 2009

The Century next to Century Plaza towers

The Century next to Fox Plaza. I'm glad the two appear to be the same height from this angle. It really spreads out the whole CC skyline.

Century City wide-shot

Someone in the know told me that aside from the penthouse, only NINE units have been sold in this building (as of about three weeks ago).

NOT GOOD.

That's odd, because I looked at some records about a year ago and it seemed almost 40 or 50 percent had deposits or were sold. Maybe things have changed for the worse in the past year?

that's just comical. i bet mrs spelling is feeling great about her lonely purchase right now. why would anyone pay that much to live anywhere in LA? where do they think this is, New York?

God this thing totally clashes with the rest of Century City, what a shame.

Agree, sort of like that dreadful new tower that ruins the Houston skyline. This tower really isn't a great fit.

i never like this building from the day it was rendered. it's just plain ugly. regardless, i'm sure plenty of us here love it. after all, it's a highrise, and it's in LA. what's not to love about it?

To be honest, I was excited when I heard LA would get a Robert A.M. Stern building, but a little disappointed when I saw the design. It looks like a poorly thought out, cheaper version of 15 Central Park West. The problem is that a building like 15 CP West only looks good in it's context. In the context of Century City it looks way out of place, with no pre-war architecture nearby to make it relevant. This tower would have fit right in on Wilshire Blvd with a lot of the other Post-modern craptastic towers like The Californian.

Okay good I'm not the only one who hates it, yeah I hate it, I really miss the old hotel that was demolished (wasnt it designed by Minoru Yamasaki?) The building isnt THAT bad but it just killed the skyline, had it been built a few blocks west on Wilshire Boulevard I would have loved it.

Hmm, I didn't know a Japanese architect did the old hotel, I sort of liked it and always though it would fit well in Tokyo (well, when I was growing up, at least). The Stern tower would be better on Wilshire, with the Californian and all. Too bad Nouvel got axed and we ended up with this. Again, not terrible, but it totally does not fit Century City.
