I think the Simpsons Tower is worse. They should have just updated the lighting feature with LED's and called it a day. At least with the Sutton it will be unrecognizable, but with the Simpson's Tower it will be easy to remember how it looked before the tacky face lift.

Sutton Place reclad project is a miss... the developer probably could have spent less money and ended up with a better overall effect with a more modest refreshing of the existing tower instead of recladding it with an OK but somewhat bland exterior.

The reclads aren't by choice. If it was, I'm sure things would have gone a different direction than a condo.

Regarding the Intact reclad, I call hyperbole on both counts. To expect a building to remain commercially competitive with tiny, recessed windows in a grossly outdated and, frankly (or Frankenstein-ily), unattractive exterior is far from realistic.

Still in progress, Edmonton's Chateau Lacombe. The point of contention is primarily whether the barber pole motif should have made the light of day. The majority appears to oppose. I think it's better with than without.

Take post completely out of context (i.e. Sutton Place Hotel reclad in Toronto) and proceed to call it hyperbole.. nice.

^ The Chateau Lacombe reclad is actually quite nice (good job with the windows), EXCEPT for the colour spiral. That was a terrible idea that should have never made it off the boards. Maybe there could have been a splash of colour some other way, but the execution as shown in those photos is just goofy.

I like it!! That is a fun looking building.. someone has a sense of humour.

You will never find anyone with a sense of humour in Toronto, WS being a prime example of a typical Torontoian, more concerned with padding his bank account than smiling or making others laugh.

Anyways...props to Edmonton!!!

Ah humor, that's what they were going for. Chateau Lacombe looks terrible in the new scheme. It should have been a clean and a classic design becuase it's got enough form to it for interest, but instead it is a barber pole. They could have done something with nighttime lighting to get their kitsch fix. I'm thinking programmable LEDs for some great rocket effects.

It kind of felt like a cement factory in the first iteration, but now I have no idea what they were aiming for and, I agree, on the whole it is not much better.

Lipstick on a pig. Not much you can do. The barbwire, chainlink fence and used car lot aren't helping it.

From the sounds of things the planned reclad of 1 Palliser Square in Calgary will be horrendous.

How it currently looks:

From commentary made in the Calgary Construction thread by someone who saw the proposed material I am picturing a sea of blue spandrel.
