^ Almost invariably they are called 'Metro'. I favour just plain old metro without weird capitalizations.

London: Underground/the Tube
Washington: Metro/WMATA
Mexico: Metro
Paris: Metro
Chicago: 'L'
New York: Subway
San Francisco: BART

Based on that, I suppose there are a few possibilities:
O-Train
OGRe (Ottawa-Gatineau Rail) or OGER (Ottawa-Gatineau Express Rail)
CARS (Capital Area Rail System)
Metro
MetrO
MetrOG
MetrOttawa
MetrOttawa-Gatineau
MetrOttawa-Gatineau and surrounding region
...

I think Metro seems pretty nice, though I kind of like the idea of riding the OGRe, and it would be ironic if almost everyone in Ottawa got to work in CARS.

How about "Ottawa Electric Railway", or "OTTER" for short. The animal nickname could be neat, since the lines parallel the rivers and waterways and river otters are commonly found in the valley. The french "loutre" even has the "l'Outaouais" sound in it.

Plus they're dang cute and would sell a lot of stuffed toys

I concur, Ottawa should have the Ottawa Electric Railroad, and the fare card should be called OTTER (ala... Oyster?). Let's start lobbying now.

It would be nice to have a unique name that nobody else uses and has a bit of local flavour. Here, I even mucked around with a logo of a swimming otter during the weekend (I got bored of chipping ice off my driveway).

I'm not sure if my clumsy french translation makes sense:

It's red and black for the Sens fans among you. Should I add some gold?

Yeah, let's start a massive campaign, the likes they've never seen since they used this little guy to protest the seal hunt:

Hmmm..."PHOQUE"...now there's another idea for an LRT name. I can imagine the scenario now:

Tourist in downtown to local: "Excuse me, do you know how I can get to get to Lincoln Fields?"

Local: "Oh it's easy, just get the PHOQUE out of here and head west."

Apparently the mayor's office is actually now looking to come up with a name for the system to boost the project's image.

I was thinking of the Ottawa "Omni". It's bilingual, bi-syllabic (which seems pretty prevalent in existing systems...Metro, VIVA, C-train, SkyTrain...etc.), and alliterative (or is it consonant?...I think there's a different word for vowels...). The latin also gives it some class and makes reference to the fact that it would carry "all" people from and to "all" places.

Great! I'm happy about this. Would Omni be an acronym? Ottawa Mass Nimby Inquisitor?

Too late, it already exists:
