We do in Kingston!

It's been around forever and it's well maintained. All blocks that border on Market Square are brick road.

Another brick road is on the southern part of University Avenue, which forms the main boulevard of Queen's University campus:

That's nice-looking. I haven't been to Kingston in ages, and for some reason don't recall seeing that.

What's the prison-looking building behind the Legislature and the pyramid thing behind the Empress?

Old Government offices which are being replaced with new offices and housing:

from http://capitalparkvictoria.com/.

Pyramid is attached to the Empress hotel and is the Victoria Conference centre. Luckily the expansive green roof is not really visible from street level:

The new Halifax Central Library has made the shortlist for the World Building of the Year 2015 in the civics and community buildings category.

The shortlist is made of up of 338 projects from 46 countries around the world and will be presented at this year's World Architectural Festival in Singapore, Nov. 4-6.

The Danish firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects collaborated with local architects Fowler Bauld & Mitchell on the design for the Halifax Central Library.

The library also won a 2010 international competition for the redevelopment of the city centre site. (CBC News)

This one's similar to the last photo, but from a different angle. The white crane is for the Maple and the yellow cranes are for the Roy; both will be residential buildings over 20 storeys.

Chilly. If you grew up on a lake (like I did), the water temperature is uncomfortable.

The Northern Pacific from BC to northern Mexico, as unbelievably beautiful as it is, is a pretty cruel body of water for taking a dip in. I know there are a lot of people who think otherwise, but to me it's not worth the trouble.

That's not to say you can't find nice warm areas along the coast during certain times. Low tide areas along Spanish Banks to Wreck Beach in Vancouver can provide warm waters when the tide comes in over the hot sand, but again, this sort of situation is not ideal for someone like me. I like constant cool to warm water for swimming, and for that, Taiwan gives me my proper beach fix a few times a year.

Amazing pictures of English Bay, mcminsen. The real jewel of downtown Vancouver right there. The city and its residents sure are lucky to have that right on their doorstep. I'd kill to have something a quarter as beautiful here in Shanghai.
