Thanks! I’ll have to make sure to get there at night one time. Only have driven by on the highway at night. Looks like it could be cool!

Great set though, Summer.

Also, where is this? (Anyone?)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. And yeah, sorry, I had them on Facebook and didn’t feel like reuploading all of them to another site.

The food is Cafe Lutecia at 23rd and Lombard in Philly.

So, apparently it came out today that Softbank (the infamous Japanese Venture Capital Fund (i.e. WeWork)) "quietly" invested $750 MILLION in GoPuff last August.

1. Has anyone been by their new HQ at the old Finnegans on 3rd&Spring Garden to document progress.

and,

2. Can I dream and think of a future where that dead zone between Old City and NoLibs is consumed by GoPuff to build offices etc the way Amazon devoured South Lake Union (a similarly positioned dead zone between Capitol Hill and Belltown) in Seattle?

Who knew there was so much money in snacks.

I just hope they aren’t bought by Amazon outright.

I’m hoping that with this investment they open up more distribution centers in NYC and Chicago. The more big cities that have GoPuff, the better

Wow. 3rd and Spring Garden. Great to see this area getting some attention. I think this will be the start of more to come here.

it's an old building that was cleaned up and had a penthouse added (recently).

the lower floors were renovated 10+ years ago (brick cleaned, windows upgraded). the penthouse was added in the last 2-3 years.

Here's what that process looked like, through the magic of the Google Street View time machine:

Nice...thanks for that perspective. The comparison tells me a couple of things:
Great bones on the building and to be able to support the penthouse above speaks to how well the foundation and support of the building is and how it is over-engineered for the addition.

Way back when, the owners intended to do the penthouse at the same time as the renovation of the base building. But then the great recession hit and the economics didn't make sense. (Or whatever). Anyway, even back in 2010 ish the zoning presentation included the penthouse which was only just added in the 2 past years.

Also a note to how good design is somewhat timeless. If that penthouse were presented today for zoning, it would look just as relevant and interesting as it did 10+ years ago.

Philly area developer Brian O’Neill to build cell and gene manufacturing facility in King of Prussia
https://www.inquirer.com/real-estate...-20200123.html

Quote:
The company, which O’Neill has named the Center for Breakthrough Medicines, is part of the Discovery Labs, a 1.6 million-square-foot, $500 million biotechnology, health-care, and life sciences office complex he is building in an industrial section of King of Prussia. The center will claim 680,000 square feet of the Discovery Labs.
...
Major construction continues at the Discovery Labs, which plans suites for universal cell processing, viral vector production, and cell banking for the Center for Breakthrough Medicines. The company said it would hire around 2,000 employees over the next 2½ years.

Breaking: Commercial Airline Service Returning to Wilmington Airport!

Breaking: Commercial Airline Service Returning to Wilmington Airport

Quote:
Frontier Airlines will again offer commercial airline service from Delaware, five years after the discount carrier ended limited service in the state.

Late this afternoon, Governor John Carney’s office scheduled a press conference for Tuesday of next week “to announce the restoration of major commercial airline service, Frontier Airlines, to Delaware.” Details of the service are not yet available.

The Denver-based airline had previously operated “seasonal” routes from the Wilmington Airport (code: ILG) from 2013 to 2015, when they ended local service “because it wasn’t profitable,” a spokesman said at the time.

Frontier’s departure left Delaware as the only state in the country without regularly scheduled passenger airline service.

Somewhat. Although I will admit that downtown Philly has gotten cleaner last time I was there. But there is still all of that pollution when driving in!

It's cool. There's a lot of this in places like Tribeca: cleaning up, gutting, and repurposing great old buildings and tacking a glassy penthouse on top in doing so. But haven't seen in much in Philly.

Good news! I don’t mind PHL despite people trashing it, but having additional options is nice. Wonder where the flights will be to.

I don't get the hate for PHL at all.... I think it's just normal Philadelphia attitude to be negative and have a chip on their shoulder about everything.

I've been to JFK, Newark, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Denver, LAX, San Francisco, London Heathrow.... and I don't get the hate for PHL. It's a nice, clean, and easy to get in-and-out of airport.
