I've been there for lunch a few times (last time was probably about a year ago) and it was always pretty good.

That place is awesome btw. I think you're thinking of the Mongolian one beside it.

I'm not saying you can't make money, just saying they are putting a huge amount of money into this place. I obviously don't have pockets that deep, but even if I did, not sure if I have big enough cajones.

The National peeps seem to be doing well. Then again, that brand is part of a conglomerate. Quickly browsing around the 'net, Rodney's seem to have the capital to venture out so good luck to them.

I'm going to drive by tonight to see how much work they're doing. It'll be a hit if they're open late.

Went to Ox and Angela last night. Scallops and tuna were the best tapas around. Paella was meh.

I've never been, but I know a few people from TO/Van here that make it seem like Rodney's is a huge deal.

Based on what appears to be half our city and their dogs now from those two cities, i'm sure this will be a big success for them from the start.

National definitely seems to do pretty well, though I wonder how well the one on Stephen Ave will do once the patio is closed for the year. I was there on Saturday and the inside was pretty dead while the roof was busy. Amazing patio too, easily my favourite in the city now (never went to West).

West was an okay restaurant for lunch so if they step it up, National during corporate lunch hour will be fine. However, I don't expect National to be bumping in winter either. Seems like the 'it' spot is 10th.

Gotta check that patio out before the snow flies - oh wait.

Just checked out Rodney's and they are pulling out the stops. Looks to be a similar setup to National and Craft,

I'm sure it will be busy. Not sure what the expected ROI is for a restaurant, but based on the amount of cash they're pouring into the place, they're not going to be recouping their investment overnight.

Not surprising; Craft ownership is involved in Rodney's

THe second floor where everyone went for lunch is now a Japanese restaurant (Goro + Gun), so you have to go to the 3rd floor to get to National.

Speaking of National, they've got some drink/food specials going on for Oktoberfest:

The 10th ave location rooftop patio coming together, not sure if it'll be open in time before winter though.

Goro + Gun isn't that great IMO. Menyatai FTW.

I've heard it's good, just not worth what they charge...

Ramen scene in Calgary is pricey. It's because there's only a handful that does a decent job on them.

Once it becomes popular and mainstream, then prices will reflect demand. I hope it ends up like pho in Calgary.

Personally, laksa>ramen>pho.

Shiki Menya in Bridgeland is some of the best ramen I've had anywhere (although I have never been to Japan).

It's very good but it's limited quantities.

Yeah, you pretty much have to be there within the first couple of hours of opening, or you're going home hungry (or going down the block to Burger 320!).
