Kingwood, WV

Kingwood (pop. 2,944) is the seat of Preston County (29,334) and is located in north-central West Virginia about 100 miles south of Pittsburgh and 25 miles southeast of Morgantown WV. Kingwood has an urban cluster population of 3,535. Preston County is part of the Morgantown MSA and the Pittsburgh DMA.

Kingwood is located near the Cheat River at the western base of Laurel Mountain... the westernmost ridge in WV's Allegheny Mountains.

A historical plaque in Kingwood claims that Preston County led the nation in "Union patriotism" during the American Civil War since it had the highest percentage of its adult male population serving in the Union army.

Kingwood is famous for its Buckwheat Cake Festival.

I was quite surprised to see a 1930s art deco courthouse made from pink sandstone in Kingwood

Kingwood's small and didn't have much going on... but it gave me a good vibe... unlike Parsons

Looks alright. How is a little town like this that's 25 miles away from an isolated college town part of that town's MSA?
