No, but I live 20 minutes from PHL so I've never needed to. Common lore is, however, that those places are utter hellholes. What I have done though is taken the MBTA Silver Line to and from BOS a dozen times since I lived up there for 4 years. Boston has its problems, but people generally like it up there. Their attitude in making your airport experience pleasant is highly enviable. Since we often compare ourselves to Boston, it's not an unfair or strange comparison. But I'm sure, as with all things, $$$$.

Really though, it's a shitty entrance to what we all like to think is our world class city. There's no info on how much it costs (I stood by the info desk outside some terminal once, like 10 people asked the person at the desk, a few having wandered down to the platform then back up). It's infrequent (just missed one and another isn't coming for 29 minutes? you're getting a cab, and you think SEPTA sucks). And $8? It's $6 if you buy a ticket, but SEPTA in their brilliance didn't put a ticket machine there. You know, cause it's so low-volume.

For me it's about user-friendliness. That's what brings people back. And Philly does have a pretty nice public transit system. But it doesn't take much to give people a bad taste, and to have that be on your first minutes in a new city, well that's just a disservice to us all.
I don't disagree with this-- however, this will all be a moot point within a year with the NPT implementation. So bear with it just a little longer.

Well, there's still the issue of people arriving at PHL for the first time in their lives, but I was told by the nice SEPTA social Twitter feed people that there'll be a ticket machine there now (and in fact, at every station). So yes, it'll definitely get better a little after that. I can't wait for NPT.

That's funny, I was just looking at that photo minutes ago, and I thought the same thing. They don't look very sturdy in the first place. What would their view be? Not that they had a great view before the demolition. It would supply privacy if there's a blank wall. But hopefully the design doesn't call for windows! That would be kinda weird. Soooo close to your neighbor's window. Yikes!

I was thinking more of their structural integrity than their view, but yeah, not so sure how great that is (unless, of course, the folks who use them are like us and will spend most of their time out there watching the construction of this building up close ).

Yes, for sure, with their tape measure and their wind velocity machines to measure height and wind forces! (dedicated to you know who...)

^Thanks for that link! I've seen the class covers around old city as well as marts of Soho etc in NYC but didn't know they were so commonplace. Guess I'll be walking toward the streetside for now on lol....

PS: You know, come to think of it, I think I recall seeing that steel beams construction (for the sidewalks) in the Comcast Construction threads from Phillyskyline (Brad Maule)

Update on 15th and Walnut. Looks like LA Fitness will be moving across the street to the top floor in this building, opening up the entire space in the building across the street (which U3 also owns).
