Cody was never going to get a chance to be a top 6 forward with the Canucks. Can't really argue for him to get more ice time than Henrik Sedin or Kesler. Gillis just used one of our areas of strengths to address a weakness which has been a power forward with a mean streak. Kassian may never put up the points Hodgson will, but as long as he is physically dominant he will help the Canucks. He's a year younger than Cody and has had more points than Cody did in his first 30ish games, so there is long term potential for the Canucks as well. I bet once the playoffs roll around you'll see him be a fixture on the second line with Booth and Kesler with Raymond sitting in the pressbox.

Also I don't think it was a desperation move. By the sounds of it Cody asked for a trade. I know he genuinely sounded surprised on TSN right after, but with the way Gillis and Cody have been avoiding answering the question about if he asked for a trade, its almost certain that he wanted out one way or the other.

I think it might eventually be a very good trade for the Canucks...

It reminds me a lot of Halak's trade. We had two of the best young goalies and we had to trade one. We needed a big center and we got one in Lars Eller (6'2, 198 lbs). I had doubts about that trade but Eller has developed into a BEAST defensively (leads the team, tied with Desharnais, for giveaways-takeaways ratio). He's also second in takeaways on the team, a stat that was DOMINATED by Markov for years.
Offensively we will approach the 20 goals mark this season.

At only 22, he's a bigger, more skilled, meaner version of Plekanec.

Atta be Dallas, even though you did give them one point.

Probably chasing the Sharks now. They might as well try Sarich and Jackman in the shootouts. Nobody else can score.

Tim Thomas is now blaming the lights at the MSG for his poor play.

Tim Thomas Blames Madison Square Garden Lights For Affecting His Play

Quote:
Thomas was asked by the Boston Herald if he is ready for the increased workload that awaits if backup Tuukka Rask is injured significantly.

“Yeah,” he told the Herald. “Especially if I go to an arena with lights.”

The lighting at Madison Square Garden is definitely different from other NHL arenas, as is evidenced by its appearance even on television. Still, they haven’t prevented Lundqvist from leading the league in save percentage and shutouts this year.

Thomas also said things just weren’t right for him at MSG.

“Every [goal] was a screen or a weird, goofy bounce,” he told the Herald. “It wasn’t a normal game for a goaltender. Let’s put it that way.”

The Bruins are now 12 pts behind the Rangers.

Turns out Mike Gillis is a genius after all. After 3 games each, Hodgson has 0 points while Kassian has 1 goal and 1 assist! Stanley Cup here we come!

They may very well win the trade in the long run but at this point I'm going to assume your joking, since that's a pretty small sample size.

Shouldn't he be blaming the government?

Oilers still number 1 PP... Ebs with a beaut from RNH, but then an open net mistake. Renney needs to go.

Grabovski signs with Toronto for 5.5M per year.
Overpayment considering his best season was 58 pts...

Plekanec and Kesler make 5M as an example and have both hit the 70 pts mark. They were also Selke candidates last year.

Desharnais, who is going to top Grabovski's best season is only making 850k until next year.

But I guess Toronto didn't really have the choice, Grabo wanted more than 5M or else he would have been a UFA this summer.

I think Price and Kiprusoff were both drunk tonight.

Also congrats to my boy Pacioretty for career point #100. He's now fourth in the NHL with 24 ES goals. That's the most by any Habs since Recchi in 96-97.
Kessel must be feeling the pressure with his 25 ES goals in 2 more games.

Probably, but Price definitely had more. That was quite the assist!

Habs sign Patrick Holland (the guy we got in the Cammy deal) to a 3 years ECL.

I'm sure we'll see him in Hamilton next year.

He needs 3 more assists to become the first WHL player in 15 years to get 80 assists.

Always nice to go back and see some "predictions" we've made. I compared Patches to JVR last year during the playoffs while JVR was on his hot streak.

Van Riemsdyk-Pacioretty comparaison:
6 ft 3 in - 6 ft 2 in
211 lbs - 212 lbs
21 years old (drafted in 2007) - 22 years old (drafted in 2007)
American - American
Power forward - Power forward
Left Winger - Left Winger
25 goals in 75 games (0.33 G/G) - 14 goals in 37 games (0.38 G/G)
So far...
JVR: 47 goals, 99 pts in 196 games
Patches: 48 goals, 100 pts in 187 games

It turns out that Pacioretty is probably the better player... which at that time it would have been ridiculous to say.

Hmmmm... who should I compare next?

Grabovski is a quality playmaker. How do you guys expect the team with the NHL worst defence to win games? I'm not at all suprised with the dip in the standings.

On a side note yay raptors!

Flames have called up Sven Bartschi to play against the Jets friday, the kid is a pretty impressive 94 points in 47 games with the Portland Winter Hawks in the WHL this season. Looking forward to seeing if his success can carry over to the big team.

First year anniversary of a sad day... the day the Bruins won the Cup.

Huge game tonight, most important game we've played all season.
We lose and we're 29th...
