i wish they went for erecting a 1,776' pole, but cheated by building a 1,368' office tower on a pole only 408' high! what a disgrace!

Whats a disgrace is how spoiled you are! A few years back, there was not going to be anything nearly this tall. Be thankful that this has turned out to be one of the World's tallest. Be thankful were getting something this tall.

I think they'd like to have some cheese and crakers to go along with that whine.

Well, they can have it all when the restaurant opens in the tower. Haha!!

There's no need to say anything. Just stay to yourself. This is how arguments are formed, when people dive in to others converstaions.

The tower will definetly be something new, but over time, like the old Twins will fit into the skyline and represent the city in an outstanding way.

Isn't this an open forum and not a PM?

Yes, this is an open forum, but there are times when people need to stay out of things that do not concern them. As you are doing right now. We just wasted 2 posts discussing crap, because davee had to but in. See, diving in to things that do not concern you lead to either nothing or trouble. This case is a combination of both.

Lets just from here on out only use this thread to dicuss the Freedom Tower. That's what the thread is for after all.

By definition, the concept of an open forum completely debilitates your idea of things that 'don't concern' other people. Contrarily, the concept of a PM denotes that all parties involved are 'by invitation only' which you may perhaps consider when you don’t want the input of others. Not necessarily sure that you have the muscle, let alone the discretion to choose who should or shouldn't offer input regarding the former...

I've always enjoyed watching tall buildings being constructed. Ever since I was a little boy I would think there was something magical about enormous skyscrapers being built like an erector set.

I will enjoy the progress of the building of the Freedom Tower.

My point, aluminum, is that a) the height of the FT has been set as essentially identical to the old (very, very tall) Twins, PLUS a tall structural spire, and b) the name has gone into popular usage.

It's absurd to pretend the FT is anything other than a very tall building - the day it was proposed it would have been the WTB - and a waste of time and energy to worry about the name. Regarding the spire: the FT's is actually far more robust, and far better integrated into the overall design, than the vast majority out there. It's no more "cheating" to count it than it is to count the Chrysler's spire, or the ESB's "mooring mast," for that matter.

Regarding the name, if it drops out of popular usage I guess the "jingophobes" will have their day. Somehow I don't see "World Trade Center One" catching on, though... just doesn't roll off one's tongue. IF the name "FT" goes away, I suspect people will call this tower "the World Trade Center" and tend to forget that the other towers belong to it, too.
