Here's the Curbed article about the Van Buren projects from January 2018. There are renderings there.

^ That second project has 7 parking spots for 201 apts?

I’m furious!

Where is everyone going to park? I demand a traffic study, a shadow study, and a child fatality study immediately!

But what about the traffic signals? Will there be enough time for me to stroll gently across the street with my SUS (Sport Utility Stroller)?????? Stroll very, very slowly, while taking selfies and sipping on a Starbucks Iced Macchiato at the same time? If there's not, I'll go BANANA on this project!!! (Built Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anyone!)

I like that we're building a new cluster around the Racine stop. Right now that's mostly used by Whitney Young students but certainly that stop (and the Forest Park Branch in general) could handle thousands more riders.

Too bad the pedestrian environment around the station sucks so hard, you have to cross a busy onramp with cars coming at you from three directions, and all four corners of Racine/Van Buren are auto-oriented. Fortunately folks can walk a little further to Morgan and board trains at the UIC stop, which is ten times more pedestrian-friendly.

Hopefully after the UIC Pavilion closes and as UIC shifts away from the mega-commuter school model to more of a traditional residential campus, this area can get majorly road dieted.

UIC pavillion will never close. Its the perfect in-between for venue size between allstate/UC and smaller venues like congress/riviera/aragon ect. Besides theres way too many parking lots around the campus to build dorms and other campus needs before they have to tear down the pavilion. Unless they convert all their events and concerts to Wintrust.

No way - already has lost much of it's commuter identity, but leave what is left - if you want a walled campus with dorms then you can go to almost any other university in the country. Being a commuter school is what enabled me to WORK my way through school, yeah it took 6yrs, but I could do that because I lived in Chicago.

The latest UIC Campus Implementation Plan has a new venue at Halsted and Roosevelt (NE Corner) replacing the Pavilion.

Wintrust recently opened and is about the same size as the Pavilion. It seems dumb to build a new one but I guess they want to remain competitive and still cash in on events. The proposed one is a bit of a hike from the Blue Line though.

Reporting on what nimby's say in the community meetings hardly makes it a nimby publication. It is good that we have an outlet again that actually covers these local events.

The 2 new high rises coming to Harrison and Wells (https://www.google.com/maps/place/S+...!4d-87.6336286) were issued 2 building permits in the last 2 days for their construction. Both are to be 14 stories with 173 units each (346 units total).

Also, more tower cranes coming. A few more were issued in the last few days.

What's the point of the TOD ordinance if a bunch of scumfaces can still ram in more parking?
