the sears tower is on more STEROIDS than barry bonds.
i see similarities between Sears tower and the Burj Dubai
probably because they are both being built by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill based in Chicago, but the sears tower still looks more bulky than Burj Dubai
I agree with the previous poster who said John Hancock is a better comparison to US Steel. Both in terms of appearance and quality. The Daley Center is also of great quality.
Sears might be "on steroids," but USX could definitely take it in a brawl. I actually made a thread about this once and I think that it was fairly universally agreed that, while not the largest, most forumers would really not like to run into USX in a dark alleyway.
That is not exactly a desirable trait in a skyscraper.
Don't you want it to be inviting, not sending a message of "stay the fuck away."
^The Sears Tower is like the Starr Jones cousin to this thing...
This picture makes me realize how perfect Sears' skin is -- and how bad it could have been. Just envision this facade material built up to the shape/height of Sears, which would not have been unimaginable in 1974 (not to be too kindergarten teacher here, but holding your hand over the top third of the image helps). Quick aside: I watched a documentary on Sears that stated a marble facade was under serious consideration when steel prices rose abruptly during Sears' planning. Now >that< would have sucked!

I'm totally agreeing to this.

The Sears Tower is the reason the US Steel Tower is not taller than it is. US Steel was going to make their new tower taller than it ended up being, but Sears later on wanted to be in the tallest builidng, so US Steel decided to make the US Steel builidng its current height.
Cute..Real cute..The image of running into USX in an alley is humorous
Skyscraper smackdown, anyone?
