Interesting that The Spectator has not published anything about Swoop yet when just about every media outlet in the country has days ago. WestJet staff at Hamilton and YHM management was told a few months ago that Hamilton will be it's eastern hub.

The Spec hasn't published anything yet about the massive anarchist vandalism spree across the city last night, so I'm not really surprised.

From Ron Foxcroft, Chairman of the Board
John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport

Quote:
Good afternoon,

I’m writing to inform you that Vijay Bathija resigned from his position as President and Chief Executive Officer on October 5, 2017. The Board of Directors thanks Vijay for his service and wishes him well in his future endeavours.

During Vijay’s tenure, Hamilton International realized a 70 per cent increase in passengers and secured new air service for the region. As a result, the Airport is on track to welcome more than 570,000 passengers in 2017. This service growth includes the introduction of a number of new routes and increased frequencies to destinations such as Halifax, Montreal and Vancouver. In addition, cargo activity has also steadily increased, with 2017 set to be one of the Airport’s strongest performing years.

Vijay was actively involved in raising the profile of Hamilton International through his participation in the Southern Ontario Airport Network. In addition, he used his considerable aviation industry experience to leverage the airport’s convenient location and transportation links to attract Canada’s emerging low-cost carrier market and essential air cargo traffic.

Effective immediately, Cathie Puckering will serve as Acting President and CEO, directing the Airport staff in maintaining safe, secure and efficient operations at Hamilton International Airport.

A search for a successor CEO will be undertaken by the Board in conjunction with Vantage.

Sincerely,

Ron Foxcroft
Chairman of the Board

WestJet adding flights to Las Vegas at Hamilton airport
Flights begin this December

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilt...lton-1.4358383

Hamiltonians will soon be able to say, "What happens in Vegas…" much more easily.

WestJet announced today that it is adding flights from Hamilton to Sin City starting this winter.

Flights will run twice weekly between the two cities starting Dec. 29, 2017, through April 27, 2018.

"As Hamilton International's largest airline, as well as the carrier with the most international flights into Las Vegas, WestJet continues to add new service in Southern Ontario," said Brian Znotins, WestJet vice-president of network planning, alliances and corporate development, in a statement.

"This new non-stop flight connects the community to a highly desirable leisure market and offers a great schedule to those looking to fly directly from Hamilton and surrounding communities without having to drive or connect through Toronto."

One-way tickets start at $189.09.

Flights from Hamilton to Vegas run on Monday and Friday, leaving the John C Munroe International airport at 4:50 p.m. and arriving in Nevada at 6:36 p.m.

The flight back will be a bleary-eyed one though — flights back to Hamilton will run on Monday and Friday, leaving Vegas at 11 p.m. and arriving in Ontario at 6:05 a.m.

Also Lethridge?

Right now they are expecting 750,000 passengers next year. And WestJet's ULCC Swoop has not announced their program yet. The airport has been told along with WestJet staff at YHM that Hamilton will be their eastern hub.

Lethbridge and Red Deer will most likely connect through another city. Also it Maybe a starting point from that area for people going to Florida and the Caribbean via Hamilton and may not be a daily service.

Looking forward to seeing this come together, Jetlines, Flair, Swoop, and even Rouge. If they all pick Hamilton as ULCC hub, potentially attract others (great to see an easyjet, ryan air, southwest or jetblue trickle in)

Lethbridge? In a full loaded 738? It’s a bit of a rough landing there in a 737-700 (due to the short runway, the pilots have to brake hard and fast). That could be interesting! Have landed a couple of times in YQL when the weather in YYC didn’t permit a landing there, and it sure pays to be well buckled in for the landing!

Somewhat surprised they won't take a stab at one of Ottawa, Montreal or Quebec city.

Quebec City especially is a massive eastern tourist destination, and a 7-9 hour drive so could have a large market.

Quebec City from Pearson has some crazy prices (although it has been a while since I looked). Maybe a good destination for Hamilton, but I suppose AC would just price match.

I did it for $185 Round trip on sale in August on AC, looking at google flights you can get $240 (All in) pretty much all the time, without any sales so price's are reasonable.

3 airlines do the trip, AC, West Jet and Porter. And Frankly a lot of tourists from here can just drive fairly easily or Via.
