If we had more stringent design standards I suspect we wouldn't have such a hard time getting residents on board with highrise development.

I just discovered that we have, at least since 2009. But in contrast to Vancouver and Toronto, the Ottawa guidelines seem to carry little weight. Guideline 20 - "Create sufficient separation between towers to allow for adequate light, solar exposure, views and privacy for people in the building, as well as people on the street" is obviously ignored by this development. Just like the Claridge Plaza police lineup on Rideau.
