It's certainly got the size we're going for.

I believe that Capital Hall is selling well, so maybe construction will begin this spring.

Was told last week it will start in July/August of this year.

What a shitty looking building.

At least there is some random stuff going on with the window design. But I agree, it is a terrible building, however, in a few years, once this area has more towers built, its presence/height will contribute to the mini skyline and it wont stick out like a sore thumb anymore...

Good thing they put that curve on the roof, it is really the only redeeming factor. I still like this building solely for the contrast it will provide among the glass tower of the future.

There are already a number of ads on Kijiji for rentals in this building. The going rate seems to be $650/room.

I like the fact each room has its own washroom (per the ads) but I did not see mention of any utilities so I have to presume those are extras.

This thing looks really tall from the Airport Parkway/Bronson, coming down the hill. I can't imagine what Icon is going to look like.

Oh boy, is the mustard colour the final cladding? If so, what an eyesore!

If we had more stringent design standards I suspect we wouldn't have such a hard time getting residents on board with highrise development.

EDIT: I just discovered that we have, at least since 2009. But in contrast to Vancouver and Toronto, the Ottawa guidelines seem to carry little weight. Guideline 20 - "Create sufficient separation between towers to allow for adequate light, solar exposure, views and privacy for people in the building, as well as people on the street" is obviously ignored by this development. Just like the Claridge Plaza police lineup on Rideau.

I agree that it will at least be a contrast from the other stuff going up in the area, but it does look like an early 2000's school or hospital addition...and not a good one. At least it's tall...right?
