There is significant ongoing ground activity at this site. It is very active. Also, it looks like they are doing ground work under the entire footprint of both buildings, not just one.

Is that a 5 storey drill at River Walk site? How far down do the caissons have to go there?

When FMC was built on the other side of the river I believe they had to go down to around 100'+-. I would guess the depth has to do with going down until you hit bedrock, and the width of the drill/foundation would determine how much weight each point can support. Where they are drilling was once the river not to long ago. That section of the Schuylkill is tidal.

didn't get a picture because there was stuff in the way, but it looks like they're digging the foundation. Also, does this mean they're constructing both towers at once? I thought the plan was to wait on the 2nd along the RR line:

I wonder if, similarly to the massive dig out at East Market, it's just easier and more cost effective to build the tower podiums in one fell swoop and then build the 2nd tower on top of the podium once market conditions allow. The 2nd tower podium will also probably feature resident amenities that will make the first building more marketable too.

More high-rises along the river. I like it. Is this one now officially under construction?

Summers always considered caissons in the ground as the determining factor. Pushing dirt around is never enough - has to be a footer/foundation of some sort.

Agreed, but those photos wondertwin posted sure look a lot like footer/foundation work to me...

Definitely u/c!! It does appear to be both towers at the same time.

Yeah, it's definitely u/c.

And the tallest tower being basically the same height as the PECO building is going to have a nice little impact on the skyline.
