I wasn't a huge fan of the first designs, I didn't like the volumes much... But this, this is really getting somewhere, wow. This building complex could potentially be one of the most awesome on the planet. Still very early in the design but can't wait to see this develop further.

I would definitely say that the Beekman looks less avant-garde, and more functional. The Beekman's twists provide each unit with a unique view, and increases the range of that view. That doesnt seem to to work as well throughout the design I chided Gehry for. From what I understand Spruce Street was toned down from the original design, and I'm glad. I also think the shimmering in Spruce's facade will end up more prominent because Manhattan is at more of a North-South axis, and not much is flanking the building East to West. As for your remark that seemingly implies that I'm biased in favor of New York; it's a silly assumption. I have repeatedly bemoaned the constant "I wish they'd build this in New York", "where would you put this building if it were in Manhattan" nonsense I see in non-New York threads. Furthermore, I've even gotten "in trouble" with an over-zealous SSP admin for comparing your city to a certain other Great Lakes city's skyline.

For the record: I suffer from wanderlust, and Toronto has been near the top of my list for a long time. I look forward to seeing the skyline, including that silly third building if it gets built.

Do you realize that architects start off with scribbles, conceptual drawings/sculptures, etc? It's part of the creative process.

I think better to have a skyline featuring a set of buildings that provoke such a sharp response than a skyline of dull, predictable boxes. As Fall Out Boy puts it, "I don't care what you think, as long as you think about me."

Any time you propose something unconventional you'll get a strong response, either positive or negative. In stiflingly conservative Toronto, a few over the top buildings are a breath of fresh air. This is one city that can afford a few deconstructivist towers.

Guys don't even kid yourselves. The tower portion of Beekman is objectively aesthetically superior to this dog's breakfast projectcore proposal. (don't get me wrong though, the center tower definitely has potential) The cloud concept is quite neat but I'm not a fan of the jagged portions.

IMO, the Beekman and 56 Leonard are both puke-inducing, especially since they inhabit the same landscape as the Woolworth building, AIG building, and multiple other art deco and mid-century modern towers in downtown Manhattan.

Toronto's Miesian core is well complemented by the new glass condos. This on the other hand just looks juvenile.
