The material / detail changes to City Centre don't look too impactful. It didn't say if those were related to VE or not.

I think many of the changes were prompted by requests from city agencies/departments. It is mostly cosmetic for the material changes, and not knowing the costs of the items involved I wouldn't want to say they're related to value engineering or simply aesthetic.

I do think the mechanical screen on the Lux project could be a cost saving issue, but that's just me.

Next near downtown Ithaca:

Thanks to the Ithacating blog, here are four construction updates for the current big downtown projects. (Many pics included)

First up is the Canopy Hotel by Hilton:

https://ithacating.com/2018/05/05/hi...update-4-2018/

The soon to be complete Tompkins Financial Corp. Headquarters building:

https://ithacating.com/2018/05/07/to...update-4-2018/

What will be downtown's new tallest, Harold's Square mixed use project:

https://ithacating.com/2018/05/10/ha...update-4-2018/

Finally the City Centre building:

https://ithacating.com/2018/05/12/ci...update-4-2018/

Hard to believe this much is going on downtown after so many years of stagnation in the late 20th century.

Next is a possible 225 unit townhouse project in suburban Varna (from the Ithaca Times):

I have a feeling the possible Green Street Garage redevelopment project will probably be in for a long, rough road. So many people wanting input with a large variety of desires will more than likely make for a difficult time for any developer. Article from the Ithaca Times:

http://www.ithaca.com/news/critics-e...7c74dc24b.html

On the other hand, here's a completed housing project three blocks from the Commons which is made up of Condos, a rare type of housing in the city. It's a convenient location to downtown, but a tough lot.......steep hillside and an odd shape.
Another notice from the Ithaca Times about an open house for the remaining avalable units:

http://www.ithaca.com/news/ithaca/a-...78d6e47a3.html

And a link to the Ithaka Terraces project:

http://www.ithakaterraces.com/

Some discouraging news about housing needs being unmet (also the Ithaca Times):
