Definitely. The wind on the southern stretch (from about Longview) is really something else, driving with a 120km/h cross wind is interesting for sure lol.

Yeah, I really enjoyed driving along the 22. Maybe my favourite stretch of highway in Alberta. I have always loved the foothills.

The Icefields Parkway takes the cake for me, absolutely gorgeous drive. I think highway 22 is second though, and if anyone here is ever doing that drive, be sure to stop in Longview for Beef Jerkey, so good!

Icefeild Parkway in the shoulder season. Less traffic.

Highway 40 from Grande Prairie to Hinton. the the Gravel sections south to Nordegg.

And for a complete change Highway 41 (Buffalo Trail) from Bonneyville to Medicine Hat. First Time my wife saw a cattle drive was on that route south of Consort. really bizarre was listening to the radio and a KD Lang song came on the radio just as we pulled into Consort.

Never driven north of Edmonton, flew to GP for a wedding one time and absolutely hated it lol. There are supposed to be some nice areas up in peace country, will probably make it up there one day.

Another nice Alberta drive is highway 56/10 through the Badlands, it doesn't really go anywhere, but it's definitely interesting.

Had a site review at CFB Suffield. When I was done I drove north through the base and up using triple digit highways all the way back. I nice way to experience the province. If you head north take 2 up to Peace River, then south to GP, head back on 41 through Grande cache.

I think I have posted some of those images on the Highway thread or this thread some time back.

Thanks for the advice, need to explore more of the NW part of the province! Suffield is an interesting area, my old man was in the military when I was a kid, so I spent a few years in the Suffield / Medicine Hat area and quite enjoyed it. The Cypress Hills area is probably the most underrated area in Alberta, learned to snowboard there.

We went for a hike today from Torbay to Flatrock, taking the Church Cove Loop. This is basically the route, but of course it's a coastal trail not the back road:

The hardest part of the trail is on the horizon - you hike pretty much straight along the cliff edge from sea level to the top.

Much of the climb is a rock fall with the rocks arranged as stairs. The white and black trail markers let you know if you're heading the right way.

People go to extreme lengths for the best blueberries and teaberries.

Flatrock ahoy.

Trees can really grow anywhere.

The little peninsula on the right is called the Beamer. It's a popular spot for teens to practice rock climbing because (I don't know any of the terms) all the metal hooks and things are already in the cliffsides all over the place. Anyhow, it's offten with tragic consequences.

You can't really see it but lots of climbers down there today.

Two sunbathing here as well...

Passed a few Flatrock teens heading out there on our way out. One of the girls was swearing she would not be going down over the cliff no matter what.

Back in the city, stopped by Sobey's. Seaweed gin? Fun way to end the day.
