Went up to Old Town last week and was quite surprised at the development. It is sneakily becoming more urban and vibrant. I genuinely think if done right it could eventually surpass the urban fabric of Boulder, especially given Boulder's self-imposed anemia.

The wind farm in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge that will serve as Apple Inc.'s single biggest source of renewable energy will use turbines made by Vestas Wind Systems.

Vestas has grown to now four factories in Colorado including Windsor in NoCo.

^ Back when I lived in Castle Rock sometimes going down to visit relatives in Pueblo I would go down an exit or two past the Pueblo steel plant to where the exit was for Vestas. There you could go almost on the grounds of the plant (you had to have a secured badge or be part of a tour to go in) but you could see the train yard there which is served by the BNSF and see blades loaded by the train load.

Btw I believe Vestas first Colorado plant was in Windsor..

Last night I was northbound along the I-25 frontage road south of Castle Rock around sunset. A train about a mile long filled with windmill blades was headed south. With the red glow of sunset behind the very odd and large profiles, it felt very alien and otherworldly.

One of the metro area’s largest affordable housing projects — a proposed 500- to 600-unit, low-income complex slated for 59 acres of federally owned land in Lakewood — could take another step toward reality this month as federal officials mull a homeless advocacy group’s plan for the site.

Things don't necessarily have to make sense; you just need a friendly federal regulation it appears.

But attempts to auction the 59-acre parcel, which sits at the corner of West Sixth Avenue and Simms Street, to private developers was challenged in court last year by the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. The nonprofit argued that the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987 gives homeless agencies the right of first refusal when surplus federal properties are sold.

A judge agreed with the coalition on Aug. 8 and ordered the federal government to refrain from immediately selling the property.

They really did.

Pueblo West was 29,600 in 2010. Which means it's around 300,000 now.

Downtown Westminster soon to be more than JC Penney and a parking garage

Downtown Westminster is getting vertical.

The projects have already been mentioned here previously but it's interesting the energy level for this Westminster redevelopment.

Real estate firm JLL announced this week that some of its capital markets team members helped secure $66.2 million in financing for that project, which is being built by Minneapolis-based Sherman Associates. JLL representatives said multifamily housing in mixed-used developments is attracting a lot of investment now because people want to live in dense, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods. They posit Downtown Westminster is particularly attractive because it is a mere 10-mile commute from downtown Denver.

But why here and why now?

“The area is so desirable because of the incredible investment that the city of Westminster has put into redevelopment; an amazing amount of time, resources and funds that will make it a really special place,” Baxter Fain, JLL’s lead broker on the financing deal, wrote in an email Tuesday.

Westminster had looked at selling to master developers but they all wanted to do the same ole same ole with minor updates. Westminster decided to take the stubborn path less traveled. It seems to be working out Big Time. Props to them.

^ If this rendering proves correct there could be a few high rises in the 9-14 story range-great for Westminster!! They need to get RTD to hurry up and get the commuter rail up there with all that projected density..

Btw there's a hand full of mid-to high rises at US 36 and 104th where that beautiful postmodern Westin Hotel that looks like it got kicked out of Boulder is.
