Brad Lamb

Quote:
Brad Lamb is leading the charge of eastern developers to Calgary.

Lamb is president of Lamb Development Corp. and was in town last week for the opening of the sales centre for 6th and Tenth, the company’s 31-storey, 232-unit condo tower to be built at 6th St. and 10 Ave. S.W.

Lamb Development is one of Toronto’s top 10 developers, currently with eight projects on the go in T.O. and what he does and where he goes, people follow, says Lamb.

“When I do something, I generally see a lot of people doing it,” he says. “I expect half a dozen Toronto developers will follow us (to Calgary).”

Lamb has a clear vision of what 6th and Tenth will grow into.

“For me, the best (product) is the best styled (product),” he says.

“We want to deliver perfect homes, well-thoughtout homes, well-designed and beautifully modern from today, not the past. The quality and styling of most homes are, in my mind, not very good. The first one I did wasn’t perfect, but it was better. Each time we do one we get better.

We want to be better.” His better idea for Calgary starts at street level.

“If you look around the city, most building podiums run to the lot lines and I hate that,” says Lamb.

“In this project what is unique, what sets us apart, is a piazza in front of the building. It cost $1 million and is something most people wouldn’t do.

“It will be for the people who live in the building, but also the average Calgarian who lives in Beltline. It will be a very serene, amazing facility, and it’s free to use. I’m predicting it will spur other developments and motivate other architects and designers to do better.”

Lamb Development Corp. has always contributed art to its buildings in Toronto and will commission a piece of art for the Calgary project.

“We want to do something unique, with a prairie theme and may have a relationship to the cowboy culture,” says Lamb.

“We want it to be truly iconic. It could be grotesque or fun or oversized. We’re going out right now to get names of artists. It will be an open competition and we’ll announce something formally in the fall.”

About 500 people had appoint- ments at the new sales centre on Sept. 8 and 9 but Lamb said, just prior to the opening, it’s his experience about half of the people show up.

“We had 250 people come on the Saturday and another 70 to 80 on Sunday,” he says.

“We went into the weekend with 30 VIP and insider sales and sold another 50 (last weekend).”

For more information, visit www.6thandtenth.com or visit the sales centre, complete with a model suite, at the corner of 6 St. and 10 Ave.S.W.

In my opinion I think that this would be Calgary's nicest high-rise condo projects to date. It has sophisticated written all over it. Love the podium, the variance in window sizes and the high contrast colour. Very nice building indeed.

Lambs projects are always stunners! Calgary is lucky to have this proposal.

I agree. It seems like people don't like Brad Lamb's personality, but his projects are always interesting. This is one of the better proposals for Calgary.

I don't actually know much about him. I have mentioned his name to a couple of people that watched his show and it sounds like he's kind of a pompous blowhard. I can't say that's true, as I've never met the man.

Gotcha, I have read comments to the effect, "Lamb knows he's screwing up the condo market and he doesn't care."

I've never watched his TV show, but a couple of friends who have watched it have describe him as a pompous and arrogant. He has some nice towers though.

Good news on this one. A GC has been awarded and they are in the tendering process. From what I've heard they are still looking at early summer for startup.

I'm looking forward to this project more than any other residential one, save maybe for Mark on 8th. Will be great for the continuing transformation of 10Ave. Glad to hear the GC has been signed, do we know who it is?

Anyone hear anything about this project in regards to ground breaking?

Not sure if the only person I can get info from is the sales lady that the show suite. And she states "Toronto is still committed to completion in two years and will start some time in the coming months"

Considering it was supposed to start in June, I am a little concerned in the fact that she couldn't give me a hard date or less vague approximate.

Just got a flyer for this saying it's 50% sold. They were having discounts on the remaining units so hopefully they can cross the threshold they need to build soon.

Sales were a bit slow at first but things are coming together. I wonder if Brad Lamb will do another project in Calgary after this is done.
