Springfield.... the one in Ohio

My first night on the big trip was spent in Springfield. I decided to take a quick walk around the downtown. Springfield is the seat of Clark County with a population of about 61,000 and a metro of 138,000. It is part of the Dayton CSM. There's no doubt it's a rustbelt city, but the downtown isn't as bad as I expected. Not much in the way of activity on an early Thursday evening. I was puzzled while walking around because I kept hearing drumming intermittently.
Let's start:

Springfield really is a shell of its former self. There are two excellent neighborhoods adjacent to downtown which you should check out next time: East Main and South Fountain. And don't be afraid to PM me next time you come through .

Some hits, some misses... Good bones, but some of the new stuff, like the city hall, make baby Jesus cry.

I have an aunt that lives in Springfield, but I've never been downtown. Nice to see it here. Thanks for sharing!

I have been there before but it was years ago. I think the city is in like a holding pattern now in terms of growth/decline. I am hoping it will revitalize more and become more vibrant because it is in a good location being near the interstate and suburban Dayton and Columbus isn't too far away either. There is a nice state park there and Wittenburg, University, along with its good location nearest to almost 60% of the population within a days drive or plane flight. I think it could do pretty well in the future

I had the opportunity to drive through there back in 02. The downtown seemed split. One side of downtown was gritty and rundown. The other side seemed lively and well maintained. It seems as though there's still quite a bit of work to be done. Hopefully that tower and that large warehouse will be developed into loft apartments or something. Thanks for the tour!!

Appreciate the replies fellas.

Chris - sorry for not getting in touch, but I wasn't really planning on stopping in Springfield.

Mark, good to see you back (though maybe I just didn't see you in the same threads I was looking thru.)
