Dutch Elm is undoable - plant different trees, ideally a variety of species, and wait. (And also don't use so much damn road salt.)

The NCC, on the other hand...

I don't think the NCC can be held responsible for King Edward. Yes, they built the bridge, but they did not turn it into an inhospitable 8 lane, 40 km/hr oxymoron. That was the City.

Improving King Edward had been one of the earliest projects of the Ottawa improvement commission. I can't image the city would have been allowed to destroy those improvements without the NCC's permission.

I never understood why the speed limit suddenly drop to 30 km/hr coming out of the bridge. I get that they want to slow down traffic but there is not even a sidewalk there and absolutely nobody follows the speed limit.

So that they can hand out large speeding fines? If you are caught going 70 km/h (40 above limit), the fine is $301.00 and 4 demerit points. If you are caught going 80 or above (50 or more above limit), you could be charged with Stunt Driving, so regardless of what everyone else is doing, don't do it.

I think that 30 zone is intended to reduce semi truck flips, I drive that stretch at least twice a day and I have never seen them enforce it for cars.

The 30km/hr zone was a council directive in response to the recommendation from staff to not install a pedestrian crosswalk at King Edward & Cathcart.

My kids say that the 30 kmh limit is just there to antagonize people coming over from Quebec.

Someone who lives very close to the site told me that it's no longer going to be a hotel. Can anyone confirm that?

I haven't heard of that but if it is going to change in terms of layout, footprint etc revised plans would have had to be filed and I don't see that on the city website.

I can already see what looks like a hotel entrance with drive through and overhang, i'm pretty sure it's going to be a hotel.

Still a hotel based on this OBJ article published today;

The group is also opening a 180-room Holiday Inn Express on King Edward Avenue and St. Patrick Street in downtown Ottawa. The building is currently under construction and is scheduled to open next year.

It needn't be that hard. Here are the steps:
  1. Upload it to imgur.com (you don't need to create an account)
  2. Click on the down arrow in top right corner of picture and select "Get Share Links"
  3. Copy the "BBCode (Forums)" link
  4. Past the link into your post

That's all it takes.

If you want to resize the picture, imgur can do that for you as well, just before step 2, under the same menu, select "Edit Image" and change to size as you wish, then click Apply and Save.

Thanks! I will try next time! I was sure I had to make an account elsewhere before uploading..

I used to post my pics on Imgur but now I use Flickr because a lot of you folks access SSP from government computers and Imgur is blocked.

It also used to be that Imgur purged photos that didn't receive a certain number of views in a certain period of time. But this may have changed.

flickr, me

It's going to be nice to see nine floors on this intersection. Going to finally start adding some height and density to King Edward.
