It's not that common. Off the top of my head I'd say there are just 3 German states where there's a larger city than the state capital (Northrhine-Westphalia: Cologne > Düsseldorf, Hessen: Frankfurt > Wiesbaden, Mecklenburg-West Pommerania: Rostock > Schwerin). Sometimes there are historic reasons for this. Schwerin for example used to be the capital of a duchy before the end of WWI and it just took over that role after the abolition of the monarchy.

And yeah those stickers (supposedly) prevent birds from flying into the glass.

Wiesbaden is cool . It was in the 19 th century one of the most exclusive spa and relax towns and destinations for high ranking monarchs and other very rich people from all over europe and further alongside Baden-Baden like many later it was Monte Carlo /Monaco !

Very nice pictures, I love Wiesbaden. A good friend of my family's used to call it home, and I swear you took a pic of where she lived. This looks so familiar:

Very nice pictures. Wiesbaden looks incredibly wealthy.

Sadly, I haven't managed to visit the area yet.

Porticus of the Kurhaus:

Villa Söhnlein-Pabst, which bears a strong resemblance to the White House in Washington DC. Apparently the owner who commissioned it wanted his American wife to feel somewhat at home.

Beautiful place. I love the old buildings. I must admit the statue of man and the bird, the guy's eyes kind of freaked me out.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Really liked this facade:

I think it's known as the Marktsäule (market column). Also includes a little fountain.

My older brothers were born in the US Air Force Base in Wiesbaden. I was born after my family moved back to the US but interesting to see where they grew up.
